After going there 3 times in the last 2 months I have to say that Eleo's on The Kingsway is now the most consistenly good restaurant in Swansea. Their Sea Bass is stunning. Plus their Sunday lunch is absolutely outstanding value.

Having purposely visited nearly all of the restaurants in Swansea so I could write a guide to them - here are my discoveries.
For a top class special occasion nosh visit 'La Braseria' Spanish restaurant in great location on Wind Street, Central Swansea, for top service, great ambience and an extensive food and wine list.
For Italian, I would go for Castellemare in Mumbles but make sure you ask to sit in restaurant, not the coffee shop area - lovely ambience, great food, wine, and service and overlooking Bracelet Bay - romantic, just a little out of the way if not driving, which you shouldn't be as a Chianti is a must!
Chinese I'd have to say 'Rendezvous' in Princess Way, Swansea, for its central location - superb ambience, including a pianist and top food, wine, and service. However 'The Emperor' on High Street is on par with food and service - even better we were treated like royalty, however it doesn't quite have the surroundings that leave 'Rendezvous' equalled by none!
As for Indian restaurants its an awkward one as even the best quality of Indian restaurants are synonymous with drunks due to their late night opening, however my particular fave is K2 on Mansel Street, Swansea, for its fabulous decor, ambience and romantic modern setting not to mention its extensive Indian wine list (how often do you get that?) and smart staff uniform, even the plates are imprinted with K2 - they have got everything right here down to fine detail and the food and service is second to none. This restaurant is well deserving of the awards it has won and is one of very few indian restaurants you could go to for a romantic meal.
As for tapas try 'La Tasca' on Wind Street, Swansea, for a real feel of Spain in a romantic setting and superb atmosphere, food, service and value for money its £10 'Eat As Much As You Like' tapas and you have to get a jug of Sangria (yum) watch out though tastes like pop but is very alcoholic. If you haven't tried tapas before give it a go you will be hooked and its very romantic, as its all about sharing. Hope my comments have been useful as I have a passion for food and wine, and love eating-out, I believe it is the ultimate romantic and social event.

If you haven't been yet to Meditteranean in Mumbles, you should go. The best Turkish restaurant, located in Mumbles Rd, Mumbles. Great service, reasonable prices and even greater food.

I went to Eleo's in Swansea last weekend and what a great evening with a wonderful atmosphere. I had scallops to start and fresh lemon sole for main which was to die for! The staff were very polite, friendly and attentive. We had to wait 15 minutes for a table but it was worth every minute.

On a recent visit to Milford Haven we had lunch at the Charthouse Restaurant, on Milford Docks. Lovely fish, really fresh, anyone visiting the area please try this restaurant, you won't be disappointed

I rate Truffle to be among the best restaurants in Swansea. It is excellent value for money, the service is impeccable and the food is of a consistently high standard, and the surroundings are nicely upmarket without being too stuffy. You will have to book, although for weekends you may have to wait a month or so!!
Another place that gets my vote is PA's Wine Bar in Mumbles, a little more pricey than Truffle, and not bring-your-own (unfortunately) but nevertheless a little gem, again consistently good food, service and ambience.

Marinella, Italia
I like the pizza, but British people do not know how to make the proper pizza. In Italia, we make the good pizza and pasta, but here I eat fish and chips. It is ok for me, I live in Britain now, but I do miss the pizzas that are crispy. I adapt and like the Indian food too. Indians are good people who make food taste better than fish and chips!

The Westbourne pub on the corner of Brynamor road and St Helen's Road is a lovely place for lunch or evening meal...cheap and cheerful and lovely food! Their Christmas dinner was totally melt in your mouth.
Abercrave Inn is the best place for a sunday dinner! The Wild Swan Chinese restaurant in Swansea is probably the best place for spare ribs! Seafood mix in The Brasseria is gorgeous! And last but not least....anybody coming to Swansea must sample a Joes ice cream!!

Best sit down Indian i would say is Karma in Swansea-on the Main Road, across the way from the Museum.
Best sit down Chinese will have to be, and no-one can beat it is Rendevous in Swansea...
Sit down Italian - Castellemaire (unsure the correct spelling) Mumbles - superb.
Best fish shop - Rossi's, near Morfa, Swansea.

The Glamorgan Arms is def. worth a visit. Not only is it a warm and friendly place, but the food is always carefully presented, really tasty and served with a smile. Good variation on the menu and a must if you like Italian food.

Whenever I'm in the Swansea area I make for the Glamorgan Arms, Pontlliw. It's a country pub, with a restaurant thats a real gem. It specialises in Italian food, the lamb is to die for and all the ingredients are fresh and some even come directly from Italy. Worth a visit.

I can't believe no one has mentioned the Kardorma in Swansea town center, I've been going there for years and nothings changed, the place is an institution, its still got all the charm, warmth, character, and its not changed one bit.The staff are so friendly and welcoming, I've seen them help mums with prams, old people and will try to find you a table asap, the food is outstanding, and the dessert trolly is to die for. Oh and the coffee is the best in Swansea too...

A visitor from London
A group of us visiting the area recently ate in Bellini's in Haverfordwest and had the most enjoyable meal we've had anywhere for a long time. The food, service, wine, coffee - in fact everything - was top-notch. They even have works of art by local artists decorating the walls. Great people, great place. Highly recommended.

We are huge fans of Miahs Curry restaurant on St Helen's Rd. The service is great. So friendly, and the food is absolutely fantastic. We started eating there 2 years ago because our usual place for curry had got so greasy. One meal at Miah's and we were addicted. If you've never been...try. You won't be dissapointed.

We tried the Bridge Inn, Llangennech after reading this site. The food is fantastic. But don't bother ordering chips, you won't need them! We also like Connelly's Bistro on Tycoch square (Swansea) -- try their house wine, it's very good.

Bethan Neath
Cafe Napoli Neath (Italian) and The Crown and Sceptre pub Cadoxton Neath (check out their early bird set menus. Real bargain.)are both great. In Swansea I'd highly recommend The Chelsea Cafe just off Wind Street. Topo Giogo in St Helen's Road is also very nice if you like Italian, although Morgan's isn't too bad for a 5 star hotel! Althouth with the kids it's usually Frankie and Benny's or Pizza Hut! But the overall winner has to be Knights in the Mumbles. A bit pricey but well worth it for a special occasion, although they have reasonable set menus at lunchtime. Enjoy! Eat, drink and above all be merry!

One of the best restaurants in South Wales - for both the quality of the food and the service - is Didier and Stephanie on St Helens Road in Swansea. I recently enjoyed a smashing coffee in the Coffee Denn in the Mumbles the other day. The coffee was probably the best coffee I have ever tasted and furthermore the staff were polite and well mannered. A great way to pass the day around in the most pleasent surroundings.

I eat out very often, particularly in London, but have a soft spot for the Med Barbecue next to Patrick's in Mumbles. Healthy salads and dips, good grilled meats and cheap Turkish wine.

You can't beat the monkfish at Eloes, or any of the menu at Cafe Mambo, both on The Kingsway, Swansea.

I went to Morgans Hotel in Swansea for my birthday celebration. It is the best food my husband and I have ever tasted, the service was second to none. It's also not as expensive as you may think.
