Wonderful beaches on the south coast of Wales. My favorites are sandy haven gellyswick...the smell of the sea the crashing of the waves - great times we had as children love them all. Will soon return to see them all again in Milford Haven.

Amy Louise, Leicester
Childhoods spent on druidstone haven beach, rockpooling, pen friends, the luxuary crab rock pool..i was happy there!
Fri Jul 25 15:21:59 2008

Fishing in the Lilly Ponds at Bosherston then walking over to Barafundle Bay the best beach in Wales.
Mon Jun 30 10:36:07 2008

Jjean Southworth, Nelson, Lancs.
Having spent over 38 years holidaying in s. w. Wales I must nominate Newgale as the most beautiful beach in Wales. There are toilets, free car park and the best ever cafe "Pebbles" in the area. Many, many wonderful memories of the glorious beach and clear blue sea...
Tue May 6 09:43:30 2008

David from the Wirral

Thinking of returning to the beauty of the beaches of Pembrokeshire is what gets me through the daily grind.

Paradise is spending the day on Barafundle, swimming in the sea, letting the sun dry you off, walking over the cliffs to Broadhaven South and doing the same there before relaxing in the garden of the Stackpole Inn watching the sun set on an idyllic day/or visiting Marloes at low tide and walking from one end to the other - summer or winter/or walking from St Nons to Caefai Bay (St Davids'"city beach"!)running into the beautiful clear water, swimming frantically until your body temperature reaches that of the sea and then floating on your back letting the sun's warmth seduce you.

Just the thought of returning keeps me sane for the rest of the year.

We bought a lovely apartment overlooking the beach at Broad haven last year. It was coming home for me after crossing the border in 1984. It is great there rain or shine. Firm sand to walk on and when the tide is out you can walk to Little Haven and come back via the clifftop. The beach is ever changing, kite flyers, dog walkers children making sandcastles, horse riders, surfers and in the evening footballers, before the sun sets before our eyes as we sit and sip our G & T's in comfort! Other wonderful places include Marloes and Barafundle in Pembs and Rhossilli on Gower. I'm glad I can come home now.
Thu Apr 10 10:11:54 2008

Marloes Sands gets my vote every time. It's a magical place and to be there at around 5pm in summer and watch the Gannets diving for their supper is just wonderful.
Thu Apr 3 14:22:10 2008

Kath, Aberdare
Have been to most of the beaches in Wales. All of them are excellent in their own way, in particular Three Cliffs [quaint], Newgale [bracing], Tenby [brilliant, and yes Beci Cattlin, Balamory lookalike I agree]. But the best one is not in Wales, it's out of this world, it has to be the Majestic Rhossilli.

Aberdyfi Beach - the best to me!
Mon Mar 10 10:43:53 2008

Jo Davies, Swansea
I have seen a comment from one Brian Davies from China. Which I think must be my uncle who sadly passed away a couple of months back. It's quite touching to read his comments. I have to agree with my Uncle Brian. For me Marloes Sands has to be the best. It's one heck of a walk when you're little but well worth it. We would spend most of the summer down the beach. Fab! Playing in the sea and the rockpools. I remember seeing lots of rabbits when we'd make our way back up the path at early evening time. The best New Year I've ever had was in Marloes, spent New Years day on the beach with friends around a bonfire. There's a few votes for Marloes I see, keep them flowing. I think I know someone else who's left comments. CK from Billericay - would that be Lofty per chance!

Three Cliffs Bay - I left Swansea 14 years ago, when I was much younger and did not have the eye or appreciation for the beauty of the Gower. If i did at the time, I would have probably never have left!
Mon Dec 10 13:29:25 2007

Margaret Greaves, Pembroke
Barafundle Bay is without doubt one of the best beaches in Wales and was voted one of the best in the world. We love it, swim there, and think it is a piece of heaven. We are so lucky to have it as one of our local beaches.Broadhaven south is next best especially in winter when you can do a circular walk to it through the lily ponds and finish off with a warm cuppa at Mrs Westons Olde Worlde Cafe, Bosherton.
Mon Dec 10 13:20:16 2007

Jan Banks Alberta Canada
My father was from Ammanford. My fondest memories are of Aberavon beach, and of course the best of all the Gower, loved Oxwich Bay and Rhossili, and Mumbles. Went every year with our own children until we emigrated. I still go back when I can It's stunning even if it's raining!

Some lovely beaches mentioned here, and a couple I've never visited, but they are now on my list for next time. My own favourite isn't on here, and I'm not going to add it, sorry, it's already getting too popular, with up to 6 families on it sometimes!
Mon Sep 10 15:33:38 2007

Jane from East Sussex
Tracy's got it right! Parrog, Newport is a gem and just a wade across the river at low tide is the big beach with sand, rocks and the fantastic view of Carningli. My dad was from this village and I dream of coming back here to live one day. What a feeling!
Thu Aug 30 09:52:55 2007

Rob- Kingston, Surrey
Carfei Bay near St.Davids is quite breathtaking. Very secluded. Barafundle for sheer beauty!
Wed Aug 15 12:22:57 2007

Thu Aug 9 10:15:52 2007

We have travelled in Wales the last four years from north to south and still haven't scratched the surface - one of the most beautiful parts of the uk.

Manorbier Bay - the loveliest spot in Wales.
Mon Jul 23 10:38:22 2007

I spend my 30th b-day at the camp site next to Newgale beach. What a wonderful place Pembrokeshire is and Newgale beach is by far the best. Sand galore and you one of the prettiest sunsets you'll ever see.

andrew jones newport gwent
I have been travelling for the last 25 years, and have been and seen a lot of fantastic places from here to the other side of the world. If you have never been or seen Wales you haven't lived. It is one of the most fantastic places on this planet.
Tue Jun 12 16:04:11 2007

Jo B ex carms now npt.
All the beaches in Wales have a quality, and are special for different reasons. But I have to say Aberporth was my fav. Car boot on a Sunday then 5 min drive to the beach, sheltered on three sides by cliffs, great rockpools and mini caves to explore. Lovely water - big enough waves from waist-depth and deeper to ride boards on (fifty percent of the time) but lovely gentle rolling in the shallows - so safe for littleuns. Plus great ice cream and chips at the top of beach. BEST BIT even peak season plenty of space and CLEAN!!!
Thu May 10 10:04:21 2007

Marie, Nottinghamshire
Falls Bay Rhossili has to be the prettiest, quietest place in the world - can't be beaten on a hot sunny day - or any other day for that matter. All the Gower beaches are nice - returning again next week - have been returning for 25 years and will be for the next 25 hopefully. A little piece of heaven!
Tue May 8 10:00:10 2007

Brian Nylon, Swindon
Aberavon Beach. Great dunes, excellent chips at Franco's (with an Evan's Pie. Great views of Mumbles and always a warm welcome at the Bay View Social Club or The Sportsmans at the Afan Lido. When it is clear you can see North Devon, when it is cloudy you can see the tip of your nose.
Tue May 8 09:57:38 2007

Simon Bennett-Odlum, Atlanta, GA
Goodwick "Sands" during the war, Pwllgawelod and Cwm-Yr-Eglwys in the latter half of "The Forties," Castle Beach and harbour Beaches in Tenby in "The Fifties." Each one had its' own magical charm at those special times, and still they do. Rain or shine, winter gale or summer breeze, at the times of golden gorse, or carpets of bluebells, with their heads bent in prayer, there is nowhere on earth quite like Pembrokeshire, her countryside, her beaches, and, most of all, her people. But, then, maybe I am biased. So be it. NAH! CYMRU AM BYTH.
Fri May 4 10:58:27 2007

Rona
I love the Ginst point near laugharne. It is a deserted stretch of unspoilt beach with a diverse range of flora and fauna....just wild west nature at its best.
Wed Apr 25 15:28:10 2007

Roz from Pennard Swansea
Nothing beats low tide on horse back starting from Pobbles across Three Cliffs steading them up and then going at top speed across Oxwich bay! For all you horses lovers out there, there's nothing better. Then later in the day, you can't beat walking over to the castle with a bottle of wine to watch the sun set over Oxwich point.Never moving resident of Swansea!
Mon Apr 23 15:33:41 2007

martin owens, Tenby
Barafundle Bay, without a doubt the best beach in Pembrokeshire - possibly even the UK. I've travelled around Australia and visited many wonderful beaches there, but I still find Barafundle very hard to beat
Fri Mar 16 10:48:45 2007

Gareth from Gower
Tor Bay on a hot summer evening when the tide is in is the best place in the world.
Thu Mar 15 11:11:24 2007

Gareth from Aberdare
The best beach in the whole UK has to be Three Cliffs bay. Sitting on top of the cliffs, looking down at the beach in all her glory last summer has to be one of the most beautiful sights that I have ever seen.
Mon Mar 12 11:15:21 2007

Ian H, London
I love all of the beaches in Pembrokeshire they are all beautiful. I was born in Haverfordwest and lived there for nearly 30 years. How I miss the wonderful scenery and countryside, but it's strange as when I lived there I didn't seem to appreciate it. When I was young, there were quite a few little beaches that only the locals knew about such a Drewidston and it was a pleasure to go there, but now they are all over crowded in the season. I still visit regularly, as my mother and family all still live down there. One day I will be back, meanwhile enjoy Pembrokeshire everyone and if you have never! been, the take my word you are missing out BIG time.
Mon Feb 19 15:52:45 2007

Elisabet Horle, Sweden
Barafundle Bay is my favourite beach in Wales. Absolutely fabulous!
Tue Feb 13 08:56:35 2007

Lisa from near Merthyr Tydfil.
For the last 8 years we have been staying in Nolton Haven once or twice a year. From there we have been travelling around the Pembs. coastline. I know it sounds a bit dippy hippy but I really feel like it's my spiritual home. Even though where I live is truly beautiful and I love it, when we leave Nolton I cry every time. The fishing there is great, hubby never fails to bring back lunch! Newgale is great for the children but my favorite has to be Broad Haven South.
Wed Jan 10 08:29:30 2007

I love Pwllgwaelod! If I ever win the lottery, I am gonna buy the house by the beach and live there happily ever after! Not only is it beautiful, peaceful, and ar lan y mor but there is a very tidy chippy up the road! What more could you ask for??!!
Thu Jan 4 16:11:46 2007

Mel Phillips. Pembroke. Pembrokeshire.
Barafundle bay South Pembs. Voted one of the 12 most beautiful beaches in the world. Once the private beach of Lord Cawdor. Opened to the public in the 1940s. It is ours and we are so proud of it!!!!
Thu Jan 4 15:40:36 2007

Jon from Caerphilly
Well theres loads of stunning beaches in Wales, especially on the Gower and in the west. I'm really glad Wales is so much less touristy than Devon and Cornwall as I feel it has been ruined down there as you cant get away from people! I dont think people realise how beautiful the beaches are in Wales they are simply the best in Britain. Oh and it always warmer here in the summer than Devon and Cornwall even though we are further North.
Wed Nov 22 14:34:22 2006

chelsie from carmarthen
I luv Pembrey Beach! It has plenty to offer e.g walks, the amazing beach, and the coolest park ever! Definitely the best trip for the hols, and perfect for the family or a trip with ur m8s
Fri Oct 20 10:19:28 2006

Karen from Manchester
Oh how good it was to get back to Pembrokeshire. Barafundle needs to be less advertised as it was heaving, it was never that busy when I was a child, and the water was freezing! I still went in though, you can't go there without having a swim can you? Broadhaven in contrast was pretty quiet which was strange as that was always busier. Freshwater East was fabulous as usual. Managed to find Swanlake bay and my children and I were the only ones there. It you're wondering where all the pebbles have gone by the way, they're in buckets in the boot of my car! What a view. Couldn't get to St.Governs chapel due to the MOD and it was blowing a gale and pouring with rain when they weren't shooting. I'm still gutted. We're doing 2 weeks next year, probably at Freshwater East holiday park as I always feel like I'm home when I'm there. Hopefully I'll get to see Marloes then. Disappointed that Skrinkle haven is out of bounds as I've only ever seen the pictures but at least I have all the other beauties to pacify me.
Wed Sep 13 13:48:01 2006

Karen from Manchester (again)
Managed to spend some time on the beach at Caldy Island this time, all I can say is WOW!
Wed Sep 13 13:46:38 2006

David, Ilkeston
(It's probably just on the edge of this region but) Mwnt beach near Cardigan - great sand, sheltered from the wind, safe swimming and with added dolphins.
Fri Sep 1 08:58:11 2006

Colin from Cardiff
Try Manobier castle near Tenby - amazing - great beach too.
Tue Aug 29 11:06:32 2006

Mike from Johnston
An ex-pat from across the pond off-and-on for 25 years in Pembs, I prefer the Lilly Ponds near Bosherston. From there the hike up and over the dunes reveals a stunning panorama of a beach that is clean & tidy together with cliff top trails. Great for all ages.
Tue Aug 29 10:13:16 2006

Kieran from Pembs
Broad Haven South - Best Beach Ever!! Amazing dunes clear blue waters and the walk through the lily ponds to get there -nothing can beat it.
Wed Aug 23 11:25:58 2006

Karen from Manchester
I am taking my children to South Pembrokeshire on the 26th Aug for their 1st trip. I can't wait, it's been too long and I am getting butterflies just thinking about it. We will definately be visiting Barafundle, Broadhaven south, Freshwater East and Tenby. I also need to see Swanlake bay and Monkstone beach as they look gorgeous. Please pray that we have good weather.
Tue Aug 22 08:59:17 2006

Karen from Manchester
Barafundle bay and Broadhaven South in Pembrokeshire are both breathtaking. They never fail to reduce me to tears. I also love Freshwater East as I used to stay at East Trewent farm when I was a teenager and it always makes me feel like I've come home. I have now also fallen for 3 Cliffs Bay in the Gower as it reminds me of the Pembrokeshire coast.
Tue Aug 22 08:58:53 2006

David Palmer from Cambridge
Fantastic memories of family holidays always come back to Marloes. On a sunny day who needs the Caribbean?
Wed Aug 16 11:50:04 2006

I shall reveal the best beach in Pembs.......it is Watwick - without a doubt.
Mon Aug 14 09:41:08 2006

Just walk through the Bosherston lilly ponds onto the most amazing beach-fantastic! I'm there next week and can't wait! Heaven on earth.

One of the beautiful beaches and art of nature I have seen on the face of planet was white sand, absolutely fantastic.
Thu Jun 29 09:40:21 2006

Lesley Marriott from Nutfield, Surrey
Camping at the farm on the cliffs above Broadhaven South is the most calming and relaxing experience in the world... my children, one of whom is a telly addict at home, spend hours just rolling down the hill. It's life as it should be ... Pendine is another cracker, although now it's not so easy as you can't take your car on the beach and drive to a quite spot miles from anyone. Oh how I wish I could be in Wales permanently instead of stuck in over-priced, over-crowded, over-rated Surrey... One day!
Tue Jun 20 13:26:06 2006

Nicole Roche living in Holland
Langland Bay. The tide-pools to catch shrimps in, the rocks to climb, the delicious sea to swim in, particularly at high tide, when it had come in over the warm sand in the evening, and our tent, Richardson 27. They are alas no more. And the wonderful walk "round the cliffs" to Caswell.
Mon Jun 5 09:08:55 2006

Catrin Neath
my favourite beach is three cliffs. Me and my family always go there for a lovely walk and to enjoy the beautiful scenery.
Fri Jun 2 09:06:42 2006

Vicky of Cardiff
We have a little place in Fishguard and strongly feel the call of the west. All the beaches in Pembs are stunning but so far Whitesands has been my favourite. Also Cwm Yr Eglwyd near Newpoort Pembs which is great for kids with its rock pools and high cliffs sheltering from the wind. The most beautiful county in Britain for sure.
Fri Jun 2 09:00:38 2006

Alison from Llantwit Major
Personally, my favourite beach anyhere around is three cliff's bay. there are caves, sea, mountains of sand and caves to explore if there are children around. this is an idyllic spot, perfect for anyone looking for a great day out!! it is near swansea, about 45 minutes away from llantwit major
Tue May 30 09:05:42 2006

Homesick, Lincolnshire
Although everywhere on the Gower is gorgeous, it has to be Rhossili every time. A beautiful place. But have to agree with others that Aberavon is nice too - it's a great place to go running or for a walk along the prom and is normally pretty quiet.
Tue May 30 08:59:27 2006

Jake Maddog
PLEASE stop telling everyone about fantastic quiet unspoilt Cefn Sidan. They'll all want to go there then it won't be heaven on earth anymore will it !
Wed May 24 08:56:11 2006

Noelle- Chicago, IL USA
Walking on the beautiful beaches in Wales is what I most look forward to during the long flight from Chicago. Newgale, Manorbier, actually I love visiting all of Pembrokshire! I cant wait to return!
Mon May 22 15:20:10 2006

Jamie Hall from Pembrey.
Cefn Sidan beach, Pembrey.7 miles of golden sand.
Mon May 22 10:36:37 2006

Martin Duce Devon (ex Yorkshire)
Three Cliffs Bay Gower every time! I have travelled extensively, and along with my sister and daughter are "obsessed" with beaches, I challenge anyone to stand at the old castle at high tide in the twilight and not be reduced to tears by the raw beauty this place has etched onto our lifes, all our lives X Martin.
Wed May 10 10:09:03 2006

Dot Payne from Roch
Horse Riding on Druidston Beach, Pembrokeshire, does it for me.
Thu Mar 30 16:17:54 2006

Tue Mar 28 23:40:15 2006

Alex McGee, Porto (orig. Haverfordwest)
Too many to choose from! Whitesands for its waves, Nolton for some excellent fishing, Newgale and broad Haven for teenage memories of campfires and guitars, God I miss Pembrokeshire sometimes!
Thu Mar 9 14:26:55 2006

Norma sunny Aberavon
One of the best beaches in Wales has to be Aberavon, not only golden sands but it must be the only place you can visit and not have to pay parking fees
Thu Mar 9 13:28:58 2006

Penny Pettitt from Suffolk
Monkestone Beach between Tenby & Saundersfoot, have been holiday here for 46 years now since a baby, this is the best beach in the world with something for everyone. Rock Pools, Clear water, hard sand when the tide is out for ball games, lovely views, quite a walk to get too so never crowded. Have been lucky enought to visit several stunning locations around the world, but wouldn't can't beat this beach, especially if the sun is out.
Thu Mar 9 08:09:12 2006

Big Mike from Sandfields
People, people, listen to me! You don't have to go to the extreme south west of Wales to find a beautiful beach-Aberavon Beach is perfect in every way! So come on people, join my band of merry men, and lets put Aberavon beach back on the map!
Tue Feb 28 11:47:37 2006

Rod Pembroke Dock
My retirement job was at the NT carpark Stackpole Quay.I met lovely people from all over the world most of whom agreed Barafundle was awe inspiring. A former Gower boy.
Mon Feb 27 17:19:42 2006

Grant Jones from Pembroke Dock (living in Cardiff)
Very hard pressed to choose just one - they've all got something special about them, and reading some of the previous entries about South Pembrokeshires' beaches are bringing a tear to my eye! Growing up, my parents had a static caravan in West Angle Bay caravan park, and we would spend the entire Summer there (and more than a few Winters). I could more often than not be found in the tidal pool on the left side of the beach at low tide, fishing for flatfish with my net and bucket -great memories.I know that one day when I have a family of my own that I'll be teaching them how to catch "flatties". Barafundle has the ability to take my breath away, and is more than worth the walk to get to it. But I think my favourite would have to be Freshwater West. Whenever I return home to visit my family, I can almost certainly be found playing rugby with my brothers on the huge expanse of sand. The best time to see "Fresh" is on a rainy, gale-battered day. Wrap up warm and you will be treated to one of Pembrokeshires' finest sights. There's somrthing about this beach which has a rawness and a primal feel about it, and no matter how far away I am from it, there's always a part of it that comes with me. Once you see it, you'll never forget it.
Fri Feb 17 11:02:00 2006

C K from Billericay Essex
It has to be Marloes Sands everytime, growing up locally in Pembrokeshire, Marloes beach was a fanatastic playground for fishing, surfing, swimming etc. A wide expanse of beautiful sand with a great surf guaranteed. Great rock pools and a superb vista of the local islands!
Mon Jan 30 20:51:06 2006

Elizabeth from Towcester
Most of my childhood holidays were spent camping at Newgale. I love this beach at all times of the year and have so many memories. I haven't been back for a few years but it's still my favourite beach of all time.
Thu Jan 26 21:37:06 2006

Paula, Stoke on Trent
I have had all my childhood holidays in Tenby I am now 37 I have had lots of holidays abroad with my family and also Tenby and Saundersfoot. I know what I would choose if the weather is good - Wales anyday.

Annie Clark,West Bridgford, Nottingham
It's Marloes! The excitement of the walk down the beautiful cliff path, in anticipation of the stunning sight that thrills you when you see it again...pure natural beauty...those amazing rocks, the roll of the sea, and the magic of the shore.....it's where you really can drop off the rest of the world....just beautiful.
Sun Jan 15 16:53:56 2006

Carol Adkinson (nee Ward) now in Suffolk,
It is hard to single out one particular beach - but Abereiddy is great, with toilets and a carpark, as well as an ice-cream van, but people take their dogs, and don't seem to clean up after the pooches! Barafundle is one of the loveliest beaches anywhere, and we love the walk up from Freshwater, but I think one of the best beaches must be Pwll Gwaelod - lovely sands, not many people, even in the height of summer, and a lovely fish restaurant on the edge of the beach - what more could you want!
Sat Jan 7 15:58:16 2006

Rebecca, Surrey
I love all of the beaches in Pembrokeshire, each with it's own unique qualtiy's and views, but Tenby is on of the best to me. In summer it is a gorg place to lie and soak up the rays, but equally in winter walking along and feeling the breeze in your hair makes you feel so healthy. Wales has got to be the most amazing country in the entire world!
Fri Dec 16 20:49:10 2005

Colin Harvey - Tongwynlais
I first visited the village of Dinas Cross near Fishguard in Pembrokeshire about 40 years ago and have been back nearly every year since. Aber-bach beach is the most peaceful, pleasant, relaxing place in the world. A little cove, safe for children and no dogs mess and litter to contend with.
Wed Dec 7 11:24:02 2005

Catherine - Fishguard
Goodwick beach had to be the place, finish school at 3.15 in the summer and then run down the beach. How cool was the park and the paddling pool??
Thu Dec 1 20:43:30 2005

Has to be Three Cliffs Bay for me wonderful memories of the ponies in the river running down to the sea
Sun Nov 27 20:12:00 2005

All the Pembrokeshire coastline is stunning, but the best beaches for me are Marloes Sands and Musselwick Mouth.

Barafundle. Barafundle, Barafundle. Natural beauty at its absolute best.

More people should visit Aberafan Beach, because it can get quite lonely on these cold winter days. It is a lovely place.
Thu Nov 24 15:34:49 2005

Gemma - Newcastle
Tor Bay / Three Cliffs, best childhood memories of eating sandy sandwiches and cold cocktail sausages washed down with squash and eating a lovely cold ice lolly when you get to (was then) post office shop at penmaen. Brilliant!
Fri Nov 18 19:01:21 2005

Steph, Dunvant, Swansea
Without a doubt Three Cliffs is the most majestic amazing place on the Gower. But Rhossilli is breathtaking, I recommend stopping at the Worms Head Pub for a pint as they definately have the best view from any pub I've ever been to.

Aberavon beach will always be close to my heart, it is afterall where my grandfather landed after heroically(sp) swimming from sicilly during the war when his ship sank. The beach also brings back great childhood memories of eating my favourite chips from francos, oh the memories!

Wed Oct 12 15:16:01 2005

Denise M. from Perth, Western Australia
Barafundle Bay is our favourite, especially the cliff top walk you need to take to get to it. On a sunny day, you could be in the mediteranean, with the cool blue sea and white sand.....
Wed Oct 5 14:35:05 2005

John Wenlock, Sidmouth Devon
Llangennith for certain good surf good people. Best surf shop(pjs). Hard paddle out but well worth it. John.

As a Swansea Jack of 80 Years standing, I love the whole area and everything about it, as I am forced to make a decision it has to be Llangennith and the Kings Head Pub.
Tue Sep 6 19:37:11 2005

Heather Symonds from Newport
Broad Haven in Pembrokeshire has to be the best ever beach. It's clean, it has the right sand for everyone soft sand to put your towel on to get the annual tan, and firmer sand just feet away to make the best sandcastles ever and the water is sooooo clear! Just go there and prove me right!
Mon Sep 5 13:35:59 2005

Rach B from Wiltshire
Llangennith is tops. Had a great week camping and body boarding. So much space was just what I needed. Totally chilled now
Sat Aug 20 00:25:54 2005

Darren Pembrokeshire
Broadhaven, you have everything you could want. A walk through the lilly ponds to the beach, or walk from the cliff car park onto the beach. Coastal path from the camp site through to St Govans, Stack Rocks and onto Freshwater West. There really isn't a bad beach in Pembrokeshire. The only sin anyone from Pembrokeshire could comitt is, not owning a boat or a pair of walking boots.
Sun Aug 7 22:09:36 2005

XP Nantes
Anyone who has been to Three Cliffs Bay would realise that this place is heaven on Earth, note the comments on Pembrokeshire beaches, never been but they must be something else if they compare with the Gower peninsula!
Sun Aug 7 20:53:43 2005

CL Stephens (Swansea)
The Gower coast is the sparkle within a diamond, an area of outstanding natural beauty, follow the peninsula around the bays along the Swansea promenade & cliff walks, ending west at Burry Green, take a week or more to savour it all, we've been to paradise many times in gods country.

I lived in Derwen Fawr in Swansea for 2 years, nearly six years ago, and still miss Caswell, 3 Cliffs and Rhossili. They are the best beaches in Wales!

During the war, I was based in South West Wales, and there was a lovely beach near St Davids called Whitesands. A beautiful beach.
Sun Jul 24 11:08:24 2005

Barafundle for sheer unspoilt beauty. Stackpole Quay for a lovely little sheltered bay, great for swimming for kids & dog and a cafe serving great food.
Tue Jul 19 13:29:50 2005

For isolated beaches, it has to be Broadhaven South and Barafundle, I travel so far each year in the summer to be on these two gorgeous beaches, they are in my opinion the best in the UK :-)
Mon Jul 11 23:28:15 2005

Sarah, Tenby (formerly London)
Tenby, Tenby, Tenby. All four of it's beaches are fabulous. Beautiful sand, stunning scenery, clear water, safe, child friendly, clean and great shops, harbour & history too! Whatever the weather, there is no better place to be. "Simply heaven" Congratulations to Pembrokeshire for all it's fabulous beaches.
Mon Jul 11 14:54:09 2005

Pete from Pembrokeshire
Amroth, Amroth, Amroth - a sweet little village with a "Blue Flag" beach, safe for all ages. The bridge at the East end (by the New Inn - superb food, drink and ice-creams by the way) is the start/finish of the Pembrokeshire Coast Path walk.

Well, no one's put Llansteffan yet in Carmarthen Bay. I've going there since I was a baby, and always return in all weathers. Magnificent cliff top castle (which is free) and Scotts' bay is lovely too, just round the corner. All we've got in Notts in Skegness!! It's not the same.
Mon Jun 27 15:03:23 2005

For me & the wife and not forgetting our 4 yr grandaughter it's got to be the beaches of Tenby fab fun for young and old.

Aberavon Beach all the way-returning to it's past glories, it's a great day out for all the family!!!
Tue Jun 14 11:20:27 2005

Martin of Pendine
Pendine Beach and the resort of Pendine, which was the home of the land speed record in the 1920's, has been killed stone dead by idiots with no thought for anyone but themselves riding around on quads and motorbikes. The County Council have banned any form of mechanical vehicle from the sands on safety grounds. As a responsible user of a jetski - thank you very much!!!!
Sun Jun 12 22:54:53 2005

Ceri, Swansea
All the bays on the Gower Peninsular are breath-taking. But nothing beats the walk from Parkmill towards Three Cliffs. After walking through the woodland and passing the wild horses, an exhilarating stroll up the dunes to Pennard Castle rewards you with the most amazing views over the stunning Three Cliffs bay and the meandering river that runs into the sea. I cannot think of a more beautiful sight.
Sun Jun 12 22:31:49 2005

Stuart from Northampton
My all time fave is Freshwater East ,many wonderful memories of playing in the dunes as a kid ,rock pooling ,the old tin shacks, the little shop and many peaceful days at Trewent Park caravanning.Other memories, the Miracle Inn and drinks /crisps in the Blue Grotto Pub (now the Blue Lagoon).

Go there nearly every year and have for 38 years now... will move there permanently in a couple of years from now when kids leave school... can't wait.
Thu Jun 2 14:28:41 2005

It just has to be Three Cliffs leading round to Pobbles ... 2 of the most fantastic beaches ... clean quiet ... ahhhh perfect x

Wed Apr 27 19:01:53 2005

Jim George , Swansea
Having travelled a lot over the years it is nice to come home to Swansea especially the Gower peninsular. It combines rural scenery with fantastic beaches. There are not many places that are unspoilt in the western world but this place ranks with some that I've seen in Australia, Papua New Guinea and parts of Asia.
Sun Apr 17 19:44:21 2005

I love Wales. I´ve been in Cardiff and Llangennith. I´ll never forget it.

Newgale sands easily, what a site as you come down over the hill and see the miles of clean, unspoilt beach and blue water, the campsite is across the road and a pub next door, what more could you ask for!
Whitesands, St Davids is a close second.

Mon Mar 28 10:40:57 2005

David Barr Lincoln, NE USA.
Tenby has the best beaches in the world, I love both the North and South Beach come winter or summer. Living in the centre of the US I can't wait until I'm back in Tenby again.
Tue Mar 15 18:28:11 2005

Viv from Roch
Has to be Newgale for the 'wow factor' on driving down the hill - doesn't matter what state the tide is at - it's great for walking the dog! Barafundle runs a close second when walking over from Broad Haven South, but then all our beaches are wonderful.
Thu Mar 10 13:53:08 2005

Sasha ,Sydney Australia
I have been visiting St Davids most of my 29 years and I love Whitesands.....I will be travelling back form Australia this year just to glimpse that beautiful coastline again. Heaven on earth.

Abermawr in mid winter with a bracing north westerly blowing the waves (and cobwebs!)will clear any hangover. All North Pembs Beaches are great.

Dominic Morgan, Carmarthenshire
Llangenith + Rhosilli in the Gower - absolute heaven on earth. Forget all your troubles and relax! :-)
Tue Mar 8 12:46:15 2005

Chris living in Ireland
I nominate Barafundle and Broadhaven South as two of the best beaches that I have ever been on anywhere let alone West Wales. I feel very priveliged to have spent all my childhood summers, swimming, fishing, and picnicing on all the South Pembs beaches as we lived no more than ten miles from any of them.
Thu Mar 3 02:47:43 2005

Margaret from Pembroke
Its got to be Broadhaven South, not only glorious sands but lovely to swim in too. Its great any time of year for a walk too.
Mon Feb 28 23:51:43 2005

Sian, Keele University, Staffs
I nominate all those beaches in Pembrokeshire which so amazingly recovered after the Sea Empress tragedy. Because the communities around these beaches and beyond combined efforts to clean and restore, we still have a thriving tourist economy. Does anyone still remember the rock that hit the bottom of our stomachs once the black images of animals and once clean, award winning beaches came up on television? It all could have been so much worse. Thankfully, we have some of the cleanest beaches around which attract people from all over the globe and still make me proud to be from Pembrokeshire. But I do have a soft spot for Newgale!
Thu Feb 3 21:38:46 2005

Ines from Vienna
There is no better place than Rhossili. I can't wait to be back!
Wed Feb 2 15:56:28 2005

Rest Bay without a doubt is certainly one of the best. I spent many happy hours there when I was a boy.
Thu Jan 27 17:37:20 2005

Pat ( Manorbier Orginally)
Tenby beaches have to be the best as regards golden sands and lovely bathing, but I have many happy memories of growing up with Manorbier Beach with the Casle and Church in which I was married thirty years ago.
Thu Jan 27 14:04:49 2005

Charlotte from Haverfordwest
Watwick near Dale is my favourite.
Thu Jan 27 13:29:45 2005

Marloes Sands
Certainly the best beach I have found travelling the world. I think of it's tranquility at work when the day gets tough.

Wed Jan 26 15:41:04 2005

Mikey K - Pembrokeshire
South Wales has so many lovely beaches it really is difficult to pick a favourite. However, as my first job was working in the Worm's Head tearooms in Rhossili, that has special memories for me. But now I am incredibly lucky to live just one mile from Newgale beach and that must make it my current favourite! And just like Kay from Pontypridd said the view from the hill as you arrive there is simply fantastic. That view actually made the decision for me to buy a house where I did, knowing that I would drive down that road and see that beautiful beach almost every day!
Tue Jan 25 20:33:20 2005

Miranda Terry - Hereford
Definitely Whitesands in St Davids, it rox!! And the cafe rox too coz the seats are comfy and I hate it when the seats aren't comfy!!!
Tue Jan 18 16:33:54 2005

Pendine Sands - especially now vehicles are prevented from going on the sand. No more idiots racing up and down the beach where children are playing. Caswell Bay - everything you need.

Fri Dec 24 12:10:48 2004

Jennie from Leicester (13) Whitesands
I think Whitesands in St. Davids is a peaceful and pleasant place with a little cafe shop so on winter or cold days you can have a nibble and a hot drink. It has wonderful caves on the left and rockpools on the right, the views are spectacular you can see Ramsey Island and a light house "forgot its name" it has 2 win!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Wed Dec 22 16:29:45 2004

Colin West from Johannesburg
Many of the beaches mentioned sound lovely but I used to love Langland in the summer months. Langland was at it's best in the sixties as the girls looked fantastic, and the vibe was great. The Langland Bay Hotel served fine food and drink and there was always laughter on a hot summers day. Parking was tight but that was part of the fun. Finally for stunning views at any given time view Three Cliffs Bay from the furthest point on Pennard golf course. The sunset is brilliant.
Fri Dec 17 13:24:32 2004

All the previous beaches mentioned pale in comparison to the magnificence of Rhossili Beach, surely the prince among beaches!
Mon Dec 6 12:07:59 2004

Tue Nov 23 11:18:54 2004

Sam Evans from Cardiff
Either Little Haven or Musselwick which are located on the Pembrokeshire coastline. You can only get to Musselwick by boat and on a sunny hot day that is where you want to be with your friends having a BBQ!!!

Little Haven rules!!! I am 15 and have been going there all my life!!!! It is the best place!!! We have two great pubs there and one superb restaurant. The parking is good and it is an outstanding, little, but great village. The residents are friendly and the scenery is great. You can see all the way to Ramsay from here. That's all from me!! So if any of you are thinking of a holiday come to Little Haven, Pembrokeshire. Big up da Little Haven Crew!!!!!!!
Wed Nov 17 19:34:10 2004

Dave and Sharon Brittain, Haverfordwest.
Little Haven and Nolton are great in summer, Druidstone at low tide is stunning! Spent many days at both at all times of year, Pembrokesire is spoiled for choice for its many beautiful beaches!

Definitely Mewslade, in Gower. I was born in Gower but now live near London. When I go back to visit my parents, I always go to Mewslade, even if I don't go to any other beach. Far from the madding crowd, no cafes or arcades, just perfect peace.
Fri Nov 5 10:23:32 2004

Alan from Pembroke
My son who went to Uni. some eleven years ago still has a photograph of Barafundle in his home at Bournemouth. It reminds him of all the good times, sun, sea and no cheepy shops. Just godd honest fun on a clean and lovely beach. And if your lucky enough, catch the ice cream van before going home. Great times.
Tue Nov 2 18:31:22 2004

Dave W,Swansea
The view of Rhosilli from the Worm when the tide's on it's way in and the wind is up is the best in the world. Taken many friends from all over the world down there and they've been amazed.
Mon Nov 1 20:15:38 2004

Growing up in Wales my favorite beach was always Caswell Beach. I have so many great memories of the time I spent there as a child. Now as I sit here with snow falling outside the memories are even better.

Aberafan Beach "does it" for me everytime because my husband proposed to me there.
Tue Oct 19 22:57:05 2004

Laura, Denbigh
So hard to chose I have so many fantastic memories of most of the West Wales beaches. St Brides bay is my favourite, I have walked the whole of the Pembrokeshire coast line and St Brides was magical, the sunset over the sea with the towers from the castle behind, on a clear April evening. I have returned there every year for 12 years!
Thu Oct 14 16:46:01 2004

George Newbury
I'd like to recommend Three Cliffs Bay as it is such a beautiful place. I went camping there with my mate drew and it was fab! There were wild horses there and everything! Definitely worth a visit even if it's just for a day. However, try and have a romantic weekend, like Drew and I had last summer.
Wed Oct 13 16:41:08 2004

Mike from Port Talbot
Aberavon Beach in Port Talbot is my fav. It's great for fishing and you can always find a peaceful spot to sunbathe even on hot sunny days when it gets quite busy.

I love all the beaches mentioned here, but my favourite has to be Freshwater West. Why? Camping out in the dunes, watching the sun set, the fishermens' lights at night, running into the sea first thing in the morning! 8-)

Mon Jul 12 16:13:23 2004

Sally - Alltwalis
The best beach in West Wales has to be Amroth beach, it's got clean sand and a nice long beach, great for Kayaking. As for Pendine I used to go there but a bad experience with a fast incoming tide and a car stuck in the sand put me off for life.
Mon Jul 5 12:21:20 2004

Ann - Rhondda
I love Pendine Sands for years we have taken the car onto the beach, and now Carmarthan council are going to stop it.For health and safety they say. I have never heard of an accident on the beach. People could drive onto the beach take out their deck chairs wind breakers and what every else they wanted had a great day and then at the end of the day just put it all back in the car and away they went. No carrying involved. Not anymore. What do other people think?
Thu Jul 1 22:12:01 2004

Barafundle has to be heaven on earth
Mon Jun 28 00:37:52 2004

Andrew M at Druidstone
Hi there, Well Druidstone :) has to be up there. The seclusion of Monks Haven (nr St Ishmaels) is awsome - great for finding driftwood. Also the small bay at St Brides is perfect for swimming and diving from the rocks.

Christine of Rustington
The seaside resort of Tenby is splendid for a holiday, there are lovely beaches and it is safe for children. There's also the beautiful tranquil island of Candy to visit and delightful countryside all around. I thoroughly enjoyed my holiday there and can recommend this resort.
Fri Jun 25 10:41:30 2004

Nathan of Swindon
Good to see so many people voted Barafundle, I am biased, as I grew up in the village behind there! Fresh West, Broadhaven South, & Amroth are all great too...
Wed Jun 23 17:10:46 2004

Carl from Cardiff/London
Oxwich Bay without a doubt. Get on to the beach, turn left & walk down to the cliffs for a day of blissful peace & quiet. The brave among you could walk over the dunes but it's hard work when the sun is shining!
Fri Jun 4 13:14:59 2004

Peter Farmer, Cheltenham.
Definitely Barafundle next Broadhaven when aproached from lily ponds. This site has brought back many memories of caravan holidays usually staying on farm site at Castlemartin during the 1980s. I wonder if the German army still have night manoevers, I'm sure the shells were just clearing our caravans roof as they whistled overhead. The perfect place for family holidays.
Wed Jun 2 22:47:52 2004

Jeff Evans from Pembrokeshire
Barafundle Bay near Stackpole Quay in Pembrokeshire has to be one of the loveliest secluded little beaches in West Wales. A walk along the coastal path with lovely sea views will bring you to this lovely little bay.
Wed Jun 2 10:00:01 2004

Phil Poole
Barafundle is just fantastic, what more need I say.
Tue Jun 1 16:25:53 2004

I'm going to Pembrokeshire tomorrow 29 May - I can't wait. You should go to Llys Y Fran Reservoir and Saundersfoot Beach and by the beach there is all shops to go to. Wales is boss and Haverfordwest and Saundersfoot are two of the best towns there.
Tue Jun 1 11:43:32 2004

It just has to be the beaches of St Davids, soft sand, clean sea and great waves - what more could anyone want?!
Fri May 28 15:11:46 2004

Steve - Sydney
It has to be the Gower and nothing here surpasses it on a fine day. The Aussies call it Serenity (The Castle) and the Gower’s certainly got it. How about Hunts for ruggedness or Mewslade for a view into the past. What about Langland for the variety of surf breaks and what used to be a great pub with a view to sit with your Dad and feel grown up. Then there's Three Cliffs with its view through the castle window, to the meandering natural course of the river on the valley floor below. How about Horton, the excitement as a six year old when the rubber duckie was towed up the beach by tractor after a "rescue". Oh and Oxwich, walking through the fern forests that where taller than you. The sand dunes of Whitsands and the walk to Blue Pool but sssshhhh.

Adam, it's got to be Llangennith Bay
I've been surfing now for about eight years, and I've been across most of Wales and I've not found a better beach. Maybe Fresh-Water, but only occasionally. It's the best for groms and old folk. I started at the age of six and it was a nice beach to start on. IT'S JUST THE BEST = D.

Marloes Sands is marvellous, especially at low tide. Also the walk across the sands from Broadhaven to Little Haven, at low tide, is something special, even in the winter !

steve from port talbot

pat newport
barafundle wow facter
Thu May 6 09:54:40 2004

Lee Sefton from Kilgetty
It definitely has to be Barafundle Bay down by Stackpole. It has no ice cram vans, gift shops or cafes, just the beauty of the beach, it's quite a walk from the car park, but it is well worth it!
Tue May 4 18:53:10 2004

Claire
Best beach is definitely Whitesands Bay. Brilliant surf and fun for everyone!
Thu Apr 29 13:17:31 2004

Claire Briggs from Bridgend
It would have to be Tenby beach.

Three Cliffs Bay- the view looking down from Pennard Cliffs, or looking up from the valley, always beautiful at any time of the year and in any weather!

Cefn Sidan has to be one of the best beaches I have ever visited. Golden white sands for miles!! I visit it as often as I can when I'm home. Every Christmas and New year for the past 20 odd years my family spend hours walking off our Christmas and New Year dinners. Great memories!!
Sat Apr 24 18:25:20 2004

Phil John currently Bristol
Llangenneth and Rhossili have got to be some of the best coast line for peace, tranquility and a a superb pub a mile or three up the road. Not forgetting Blue Pool of course!

Newgale beach brings back so many happy memories of my teenage years.A gang of us used to go there after the Sunday night dances at Brawdy and wait for the sun to come up. A spectacular sight to see. We would then walk home to Haverfordwest where I used to live and get ready for work.

John Gamble from North Holland
My favourite beach is at Saint Davids in West Wales. The surfing there can be great and you can park your camper van right where the action is.
Mon Mar 29 14:14:36 2004

Brian Davies From Qingdao in China
The best beach in Wales without doubt is Marloes beach.....golden sand, beach pools, clean sea (but cold). As village boys we spent many hours on the sands and swimming in the water plus as family outings the picnics on the sands. Those were the days.
Sun Mar 28 15:23:55 2004

Jac from Glasgow via Pwll!
I'd agree with Christian, Cefn Sidan is breathtaking. The Gower also has some beautiful, isolated beaches for some peace and quiet. And Llangrannog beach always brings back very happy memories of my student days in Lampeter when we'd skip Philosophy lectures and drive to the sea.
Mon Mar 22 13:32:40 2004

Definately Tenby, Saunderfoot or Caldey. Beautiful views and clear water especailly around Caldey. But I suppose I'm a bit biased as I live in Saundersfoot, go to school in Tenby, and see Caldey from the science labs in school.

Caswell Bay, "you cannot have because it's not there"! A wonderful and adventurous place to take children to,I had great fun there as a child, and as a young adult with my daughter. We went back recently (March 7) and I went paddling in the rock pools. My feet frooze but it brought back many happy memories. Thank you Caswell.

As a family we have been holidaying in Pembrokeshire for over 11 years and I genuinely feel it is one of the best places on earth! Asked to pin down my absolute favourite beach I would probably say Manorbier, just because of the whole setting with the castle. Very closely followed by Castle Beach which just holds so many special memories for me and always feels like I am coming home.

Every beach in Pembs is lovely!!! I may be biased but my home beaches of Saundersfoot and Tenby are the best. Not forgetting Caldey's whose sands are more golden as any!

A wonderful 'hidden' cove that has high cliffs, clear water and a wonderful beach cafe that serves the best hot chocolate in Wales!

Any one beach in the Gower!! It's the most beautiful place in the world. The worlds best kept secret.
Tue Mar 2 13:43:35 2004

Jennifer Laws from East London
I think tenby is the best but as I have been finding too many other ones and out of the way beaches, I can say I love them all. Saundersfoot is good too, and White Sands is awesome mmmmmmmmmm.
Sun Feb 29 00:55:23 2004

Christian of Llanelli
Cefn Sidan beach in Pembrey Country Park is the best beach in the world by far. Walking the dog along a deserted beach on a windswept Sunday afternoon in winter is heaven!
Mon Feb 16 12:53:54 2004

Lisa Evans from Treherbert
I think North Beach in Tenby is the perfect beach. The views over Carmathen Bay are glorious and the water always seems calm. There is no finer place!
Sun Feb 15 22:02:39 2004

Allison Scott, Towy Valley
I love a beach with a castle, that always gets the kids interested in climbing the usual hill to the top! ( and the promise of seeing mummy play knights and white horses!)
Thu Feb 12 11:43:40 2004

Paul Davenport from Manchester
Barafundle bay is beautiful. Its a great walk from the national trust car park, along the coast till you climb the steep steps to the beach. Great surfing also.

Jean - Wigan
It's got to be Freshwater East. Been there for holidays every year since I was born in the 50's. Try to be the first on the beach for an early morning walk. Magic. Miss the beach shop though. AWH!
Mon Feb 9 17:24:59 2004

GJ from Haverfordwest
Newgale, Barafundle and Marloes Sands. Better than anything you will find on the continent each with their own charms.
Tue Feb 3 16:08:22 2004

Verity
Nominates: "All the beaches in the Gower. Rhossili, Langland, Caswell, Llangennith, Three Cliffs. The best place to go and chill out is Langland, watch the surfers, play some guitar and build a fire. Love it!"

Theresa says:
"My favourite is the beach at St. Bride's Bay - a perfectly shaped beach with oh-so beautiful sunsets."

Daren-Marc from Port Talbot says:
"I have to say that Aberafan Beach in Aberafon is rather special! I have just moved to Port Talbot from Birmingham, so to have a beach just five minutes from my front door is a dream come true. The beach is clean and stretches for miles (not literally!). It's well used by locals and power kiters. It is even going for a Blue Flag award soon, so if your in Port Talbot, pop down to Aberafon beach."

Tracy nominates the Parrog:
"There is no better than the Parrog, Newport, Pembs. Take a trip up Carn Ingli and see breathtaking views of Parrog and Dinas Head amongst the sheep, wild ponies and butterflies. Absolute bliss!"

Paula Bratton Young says:
"Newgale, Newgale, Newgale, Newgale ... Atmospheric and emotional, passionate and strong. There is never a dull moment on the beach ... and you get a good cuppa!"

Philip says:
"All the beaches in Gower are spectacular in their own way. Spend a week on the Gower and visit two different beaches a day. Personally my favourite is Three Cliffs Bay."

Mathew says the best beach is :
"Newgale Beach, both day and night in the summer ..."

Margaret of Pensby Wirral nominates:
"Aberporth in West Wales - the most beautiful beach on this earth."

Bev nominates a beach in Port Talbot:
"My favourite beach is Aberavon Beach. I was brought up around there and it is great, I have loads of memories of that beach during the summer days!"

Karen has a list of beaches:
"1. Barafundle Bay. The walk there is lovely and the view, staggering.
2. Freshwater East. I used to stay at East Trewent Farm when I was a girl and so it has many happy memories for me. Although the sea was freezing!
3. Broadhaven. As much for the walk through the lilly ponds as the actual beach. The view when you come out of the trees is astounding.
4. Shrinkle Haven. Lovely.
5. Swanlake Bay. We could never get near because of the army but it was worth the wait.
All of these give me goose bumps just thinking about them.
Although I have send in a few favourites, I think in all , Barafundle would have to win. The soft, golden sand, the turquoise sea and a view to die for. Can't be beaten."

Leah says:
"I think Tenby beach and Fresh Water beach are lovely. It is great to go there in the weekend and summer."

Martin nominates three beaches in Pembrokeshire - Freshwest, Broad Haven South and Barafundle:
"Because I have spent the last three summers cleaning them six days a week for four months a year and you kind of develop a special bond to them when your the only person on Freshwest at 8 o'clock on a wet and blustery Tuesday morning! Fantastic!"

Sian from South Pembs votes for:
"All of the beaches in South Pembrokeshire. But Freshwest and Broadhaven South first thing in the morning reminds me it's good to be alive!"

Helen of Haverfordwest nominates:
"Newgale in Pembrokeshire. It just has to win because of its vast sands and beautiful blue sea."

Charles says it has to be Swansea Bay:
"The views from the top of Knab Rock or from the top of Tycoch are spectacular. The lighthouse, the city, the mountains, Port Talbot has an industrial beauty and there's even England on a clear day.
But day or night it's always awe-inspiring."
