The Pistons are a small, hard rock band hailing from Pembrokeshire, and consist of four members, Dan Griffiths, Fred Phillips, Robbie Godwin and Will Edwards.
The Pistons started out as "Tangerine Machine" but Robbie was fed up with singing and drafted in Daniel "Egg" Griffiths. Relentless rehearsing started, and The Pistons found a comfortable place playing hard rock music of the 1970"s.
Gigging was found to be near impossible due to the grunge/punk scene, never the less, The Pistons kept trying, and were rewarded with an opening slot at a local gig and a live performance at Greenhill School St David's day concert followed. The band was in a buoyant mood.
The Pistons are currently working on new material, with an EP with a tentative release date of October 2006. The band are also starting to establish footholds in other areas of the county, namely Pembroke and Haverfordwest.
Interview with Pistons Vocalist and Guitarist Dan Griffiths
Q. How would you define the word 'success'?
A. Being able to play your own music, without worrying about crowd response.
Q. What three cds would you bring if you were stuck on a desert island?
A. Can I have five? Yes, Ok; Rush - A Farewell To Kings, Led Zeppelin - Houses of the Holy, Deep Purple - In Rock, The Darkness - One Way Ticket To Hell ... And Back and AC/DC - Powerage.
Q. Why did you name your band 'The Pistons'?
A. A spur of the moment name. It came into my head while revising, and it stuck.
Q. What are your musical influences?
A. There are many. Any variation of 70's rock (Progressive, hard), or Jazz.
Q. Are you set to release an album?
A. We have an idea to release an EP in the near future, but an album is looking too far ahead.
Q. What's your favourite Roast Dinner?
A. Nut Roast.
Q. Which is more fun; Live concerts or recording songs in a studio and why?
A. Hmmm, that's a hard one. I like both; there's a wonderful adrenaline rush achieved while performing live. But, the chance to spend time in a studio to perfect songs and add nice little touches is even better.
Q. What inspires you to make music the way you do?
A. The lack of Progressive Rock in the Pembrokeshire music scene.
Q. What do you think of other local bands?
A. Personally, I'm not entirely fond of them, none satisfy my musical tastes. But they're good at what they do, and it is nice to see the school have diversity amongst its bands.
Q. Where do you see your band in 10 years time?
A. I'd prefer not to think that far ahead. We're taking things one rehearsal at a time.
