My name is Harry. I am going to talk about my move to Greenhill Sixth Form from a boarding school for deaf people in Newbury, Berkshire. I am in my second year in the sixth form, and only moved at the beginning of A levels.
I have always lived near Tenby since I was born, I even went to Tenby Infants and Tenby Juniors, before starting year 7 in the boarding school, Mary Hare.
I know that Mary Hare School was the best thing to happen for me, as it has made me aware of the deafness that we find around the UK, even around other countries. We had some students coming from countries like Malaysia and Pakistan.
Now, I am going to tell you the differences between the schools. Greenhill is a well organised school that has it's own building for the sixth form, which I use. The school holds around 1500 pupils. Mary Hare was a smaller school which only holds about 200 students.
The main reason for my moving to this school, Greenhill, was missing the family. As I only travelled home every third weekend during the school terms. I wouldn't say that I regret the move, as I have been welcome to this school, given from the teachers and students, most of which were my old friends from the Tenby Juniors and the infants school. I have managed to fit in with the sixth formers, and I do enjoy the courses that I am doing, which are Physical Education, Maths and Biology.
My deafness has been a bit of a problem when it comes to being taught by teachers who may or may not have had previous experience with deaf students like me before. This hasn't prevented me from learning at the same level as the other class mates. I have a FM system, which consists of a microphone and and adapter, for the earpiece that I wear everyday. The teachers have been helpful in their teachings too. The great thing is that they do tend to use the whiteboard, or the electronic whiteboard which most classrooms have.
I am now going to talk about the pros and cons in this school.
Pros
This school has great provisions for the sixth form.
It is situated in a good location, which is near the shops, and of course the beach.
Teachers are very kind.
Great equipment are used in classrooms.
Plenty of subjects are available.
Great support provided for me. Learning Support Assistants are found in schools.
Cons
Teachers are not qualified towards deaf students.
There isn't any organised weekend trips for us.
Overall, I have been very impressed with how the school is run.

Wonderful to read your account Harry. It's a long time since I worked with you in the early days of cochlear implantation and it is good to know that it has been so successful. Best wishes to you and your family. Please pass on my regards.
