Trust team name their top spots

Last updated: 30 May 2006

Volunteers working on Gower
May 2006 marked the fiftieth anniversary of Gower's designation as the UK's first Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty (AONB). Since 1956 the area has been one of the National Trust's most popular coastal properties. The Trust manages three quarters of the coastline and 11% of the land, with a dedicated team backed by a small army of volunteers.

Everyone who knows the Gower has a favourite place, so we asked some of the people who know it best - the staff who work there for the Trust - where their Gower top spots are.

Name: Sian Jones
Role: Property Manager
Favourite place on Gower:
Torbay without a doubt...sitting on a deserted beach with the sun on your face and a cup of tea in your hand - guaranteed to put a smile on your face!

Name: Sian Musgrave
Role: Head Warden
Favourite place on Gower:
I don't have a particularly favourite place. Every place has a bit of something that makes it special, whether it's the solitude, the landscape, the plants and animals, the views or the architecture - everywhere is different. The sheer variety of Gower is my favourite thing.

Name: Claire Hannington
Role: Community Warden.
Favourite place on Gower:
My favourite place on Gower is Ramsgrove because it is quiet and peaceful and feels like another world.

Name: Sarah Stevens
Role: Warden
Favourite place on Gower:
It's got to be along the cliffs at the far end of the peninsula, a great place for relaxing, listening to the birds singing and the waves crashing, gazing out across the sea and soaking up the beautiful sunsets.

Name: Danielle Peruffo
Role: Careership Warden
Favourite place on Gower:
Around our basecamp at Whiteford because the view looking out over Cwm Ivy Marsh is stunning! Not one of the best known or iconic Gower sites but one with a secluded feel and lovely atmosphere.

Name: Kim Boland
Role: Property Administrator
Favourite place on Gower:
Pennard Cliffs
Why: What better place for an early Sunday morning walk with the family followed by the best chocolate cake ever in the Coffee Shop!

Name: Veronica Shenston
Role: Property Administrator
Favourite place on Gower:
Whiteford Burrows. I particularly enjoy this part of Gower for its solitude and the many different birds, flowers, insects and animals found there.
