Friends of Parc Melin Mynach

Melin Mynach Councillor Gill Evans describes the work of the 'Friends of Parc Melin Mynach'.

In 2005 Beth Winkley of the Regeneration Office in Gorseinon, arranged a meeting to form a 'Friends of Parc Melin Mynach'.

Quite a number of people turned up for the initial meeting, so a second meeting was arranged for February 2005 at the Regeneration Office in West Street, Gorseinon. At this meeting a committee was formed and I was asked to be Treasurer.

We arranged a litter pick for March 2005 to try and clean the Parc up. Around 60 people turned out on the Saturday morning and between us all we collected a large amount of rubbish.

The aim of the group is to improve Parc Melin Mynach. The area is a reclaimed colliery site and is home to the historic remains of a 12th. Century Monks Mill. We wish to tranform it into a place of interest which the people of Gorseinon can enjoy.

Anyone interested in joining the group should call at the Regeneration Office for information or telephone 01792 896128.

On a quiet stroll with my son and dog we came across this mill, how fascinating, been back a few times since. Lovely place to walk!

Melin Mynach needs restoration. It has been abused by drunks for so many years. When is the restoration going to begin? It's 2007 now, and Melin Mynach is overgrown with plants, full of rubbish, and not looking any better than it was 10 years ago.
