The Gorseinon Institute is celebrating 100 years at the end of May 2006. The building is run by a committee of around ten volunteers, with support from a City & County of Swansea officer, and they offer a valuable service to the Gorseinon community.
Between 2500-3000 people use the facility every month, examples of activities that take place there are ballet, senior groups, dancing, youth groups, yoga, pilates and scrabble to name but a few.
The committee are particularly interested in obtaining old photographs of the building and of people and groups who have used the facility over the years. They are particularly keen on contacting Gwen Owen, the daughter of Thomas Morris who was Chairman of the Institute in 1906.
If anyone has any information or photographs, please contact either Councillor Howard Payne on 895390 or staff at the Gorseinon Regeneration Office, 12 West Street, Gorseinon, telephone 01792 896128.

Bob Baird from Markham Ontario
My father Rob Baird was a very active member of the Institute in the 1930's. He lived at 7 Queen's Ave. Is there anyone still around who might remember him or the activities of the institute at that time? I'm writing a family history and would appreciate any information.

When I was 4 years old, I was Tap Dancing & Singing, with The Maida & Raymond Gale's Troupe, I used to sing "I'll be your Sweetheart" with Ken Gale, along with a number of other children from Grovesend, at the Institute, to raise funds for the "Comforts" for the Soldiers during the war, my Brother & Sister were also in the Troupe. The "Comforts" were to enable the purchase of wool to make socks, gloves & scarves, & any other little gifts for the Soldiers.
