Gorseinon Development Trust

Development Trust logo The Gorseinon Development Trust tell us about who they are and what they do.

Gorseinon Development Trust was established in January 2003 to take over the reins from the Gorseinon Regeneration Forum. The Trust is led by Chairman Andrew Donald and a board of directors who come from the public, voluntary and private sectors and covers all interests including business, education, health, faith, police and leisure.

The goal of the Trust is to contribute to the long term economic and social well being of Gorseinon and to improve the quality of life of its residents. The Trust seeks to respond to the needs of the community and engages in dialogue with the business and residential community on a regular basis. The Trust takes a holistic view of regeneration believing that economic regeneration is integral to successful community regeneration.

The Trust has aimed to maximise the funding it has received from the Steel Regeneration Fund and to date has turned £4m into £12m with over £4.5m of match funding coming from the private sector. Over the last 3 ½ years the regeneration programme has evolved and developed, the Trust has worked closely with the City and County of Swansea, the WDA, Gorseinon Town Council and other key partners to ensure that it delivers high quality sustainable projects relevant to the needs of the community.

The Trust has facilitated many achievements from the transformation of the High Street into a bustling shopping centre, to an Awards Scheme which has provided financial support and expertise to enable 57 voluntary community projects to be undertaken. The Trust enjoys positive feedback from the community who have seen dramatic changes in the town and have enjoyed participating in the high profile community events. The Trust has many challenges ahead and many ambitious projects it would like to achieve. The board of directors and the Friends of Gorseinon Development Trust are enthusiastic and determined to see the work continue.

Some of our achievements include:

  • The set up of an open access office providing an information and contact point.
  • Created 123 jobs and safeguarded 70 jobs in the manufacturing sector.
  • Produced a Landscape Strategy for the Gorseinon area.
  • Commissioned traffic management measures for community safety.
  • Partner in the establishment of the Summer Arts Festival and Christmas Lantern Parade with Gorseinon College and Arts for Us.
  • Supported the development of the Green Gym in Gorseinon, the first in Swansea.

We would welcome your feedback so please call into the office at 12 West Street or call our team on 01792 896128 for further information.
