  • Have a look at Mike Sanderson's Slideshow

  • What's your name?: Mike Sanderson
  • Where are you from originally and where are you now?: I was born and brought up in Haverfordwest, and after living in Hay-on Wye for 22 years , I moved to Cilgerran in 2005 with my wife Mary, who is also an artist.
  • What medium / media do you work in?: Acrylics, gouache, pen, pencil, montage
  • How would you describe your work?
    Varied
  • What are your influences and inspirations?: Surrealists. Photo realists. Anybody with a skill.
  • Which piece are you most proud of and why?: A portrait of Thelonius Monk, because it almost reaches what I'm trying to achieve, (but not quite) and everybody else likes it too. Also various commissions I've done.
  • Have you had any exhibitions - if so, where? Do you have any planned in the future?: Brecon Jazz; Hay Castle; Mayor's Parlour, Hereford; Cilgerran Wildlife Centre ( where I'm hoping to have more in the near future). I also have some work on show at Pendre Art in Cardigan, and will be putting some in a new gallery in Cardigan ( when it opens).
  • Please give a brief description of one or two of the projects you've worked on recently.: Whilst in Hay I did various commissions ( paintings and some design work) (I trained in graphics and illustration). Since moving to Cilgerran I have been working on local townscapes etc. for a web gallery, and to exhibit locally.
  • What are your views on the current arts scene nationally and in South Wales?: I think there is some tremendous talent out there, and opportunities for all artists.
