  • Have a look at Jacqueline Jones' Slideshow

  • Where are you from originally and where do you live now?
I first saw the world in Carmarthen, but grew up in Ceredigion which still holds a great influence on my art. I know live in South Wales, in the valleys.

  • What medium/media do you work in?
I work mainly in the medium of oils on canvas.

  • How would you describe your work?
My work is expressive, emotive and I delight in colour and its power.

  • What are your influences and inspirations?
My influences range from the Dutch masters of art such as Vermeer to Jean Basquiat. My inspirations cancome from contemporary urban music, poetry, the humanform, and the enviroment, many things altogether.

  • What piece/pieces of work are you most proud of and why?
A piece of mine called clubber is one of my favourites as it combines urban graffiti and portraiture and represents a modern urban wales. Also a piece called Urban Scene. These pieces represent a new phase in my work. I thrive on challenge and this is good for art.

  • Have you had any exhibitions if so where ? Do you have any planned in the future?
I have exhibited at The Washington Gallery in Cardiff, Steven Walton Gallery Sussex, at City Hall, and the Temple of Peace at Cathays Cardiff, Barker Gallery Pontypool among others.

  • Please give a brief description of one or two of the projects you've worked on most recently?
Currently working on a project involving street scenes and developing the Rhondda Open House Trail for which I received a Millenium Award in 2003.

  • What are your views of the current Welsh scene both nationally and in south Wales?
I think perhaps the Welsh arts scene has been a little conservative and has had a slow start. In the next couple of years it should become a vibrant scene once the profile of Welsh art has increased. There has been a lot of neglect. We could do with a Thames and Hudson book about Welsh art for example, I think this is justifiable now. There are new artists emerging who need encouragement too. There does however seem to be more interest now.
