Last updated: 16 September 2008

  • What's your name?: Alan Evans
  • Where are you from originally and where are you now?: Llanelli, now in St Clears
  • What medium / media do you work in?: Photography
  • How would you describe your work?
    Social Documentary
  • What are your influences and inspirations?: Richard Avedon, photographer, Michael Wesley, photographer
  • Which piece are you most proud of and why?: Portraits of Polish immigrants in Carmarthenshire. I liked getting to know the Polish people and I wanted to understand a bit more about them. The images are extremely soft and reverent.
  • Have you had any exhibitions - if so, where? Do you have any planned in the future?: National Botanic Gardens, Howerd Gallery Cardiff, Y Stiwdio, St Clears, ICI headquarters, London, Heathrow Terminal 3, London, West Wales School of the Arts, Carmarthen, Oriel Q, Narberth
  • Please give a brief description of one or two of the projects you've worked on recently.: Creating 'Y Stiwdio' a multi functional art gallery and photography studio in St Clears. Photographing Carmarthenshire for the county council's tourism guide 2009
  • What are your views on the current arts scene nationally and in South Wales?: I am trying to get things going in West Wales. Very little financial support. Artists tend to be isolated and form their own network and remain guarded. I think we should have a place or forum to get together as artists throughout Wales to strengthen the scene.
