ScribesRus - Writing Group

Books

Last updated: 03 April 2008

Ever wanted to write? Never got around to it? Join a group of writers in Brynamman who all started in a similar way. Jan Slade continues...

Read extracts from one of the ScribesRus' anthology The Long and Short Of It.

"ScribesRus is a spin off from a Creative Writing Course, meeting weekly to discuss their writing, competitions, publication, in fact anything to do with putting pen to paper - or fingers to computer! Members of varying ages, from far and wide, and now all living in the area, make this a diverse group.

"We are a lively bunch drawing on our life experiences to stimulate our imagination. Each week a subject is set and members pen their interpretation of it. Political satire, ghost stories, reviews, poetry and fiction have all found their way into print, encouraged and critiqued by the group.

"We have published 'First Cut', 'The Long and Short of It' and most recently 'And Having Writ...'. Why not join us and be part of our next collection?

"A website giving more details of the group can be found at www.scribesrus.co.uk, from which there are links to each member's blog. Here they publish their own choice of work and update it from time to time. A regular read of these is always rewarded with thought provoking subjects.

"The group meets at 1pm every Monday in Brynamman Community Centre; there is a one-off registration fee of £5. ScribesRus has an annual subscription currently set at £10, as well as a £2.50 charge for each meeting you attend.

"Sessions are planned to conclude by 3.30pm. A car park opposite the centre offers free parking and a café operates in the centre, serving teas, coffees and light snacks all at very reasonable prices.

"Access to computers is available for internet interrogation or assistance with projects. The library operates from the same building and is open on Mondays from 9.30am to noon and 3 to 5pm. (It is also open for some time during the day on Wednesdays and on Thursday evenings.)

"Interested? Contact Jan, the Secretary (01269 824600), or email scribesRus1@AOL.com."
