The name Norwood Gardens, in the plural, is a clue to the design. The backbone of the site is the Long Walk, a wide path over 180 metres long which extends almost the full length of the garden. To either side are set seven gardens of various sizes, each with its own theme. They are separated from each other by borders and areas of mixed planting ranging from annual bedding plants to drifts of substantial shrubs. The whole area is substantially planted with trees. The gardens are designed with many seating areas to encourage visitors to stop, sit down and relax.
