
The National Trust
The National Trust was formed in 1895 to care for places of historic interest or natural beauty. In Wales it operates on an all-Wales level and cares for over 106,000 acres of countryside, 138 miles of coastline and some of the finest castles and gardens.

The Trust is the largest conservation organisation in Europe, supported by 2.7 million members, 70,000 of whom live in Wales. Its properties have unique legal protectionor inalienability which means they can never be sold or mortgaged without permission of Parliament. As a charity it relies on membership subscriptions, gifts and other voluntary support to meet its £148 million annual conservation and maintenance costs.
