Urban Habitat Urban

Despite first appearances, the industrial and post-industrial sprawl of places such as Swansea and Port Talbot can be home to a surprising number of animals and plants. If you know what to look for, these increasingly important habitats can yield a variety of wildlife.

Along with the insects that populate the streets and houses, taller buildings can be inland cliffs for roosting birds, while railway embankments can be home to badgers and foxes. The region is still full of remnants of its industrial heritage, and with many sites left empty their new residents can be adept at making themselves comfortable.
