Upland lake Upland Woodland

Both upland and lowland woodlands occur throughout Wales, and in Pembrokeshire youll find one of the largest concentrations of upland woodlands in the country. They typically cover steep valley sides, although they can also be found near the coast. Despite the rarity of clear-felling nowadays, the combined threats of heavy grazing, the rapid expansion of the rhododendron and atmospheric pollution make this habitat part of the CCW's Action for Wildlife initiative.

There's some great woodland walks in our Things to Do section, or click here to find out more about the work of the Woodland Trust and CCW.
