Famous For: One of the leading jump jockeys, with two Grand National wins to his credit.
Biography: Having begun his riding career in 1993, Carl Llewellyn has ridden more than his share of winning mounts at the National Hunt Festival
He has also claimed the Grand National on two occasions. In 1992 he swept past the post on Party Politics, an apt name given that the General Election was just two weeks away at the time. He was back in the winner's enclosure at Liverpool six years later, repeating his victory astride Earth Summit.
His attempt to score a treble at the National came to grief when, in the later stages of the rain-soaked 2001 event, he lost his reins and was unseated at the twentieth fence.
In December 2003 Carl won the Welsh National at Chepstow when riding Bindaree. This win made Llewellyn the first Welsh-born jockey to win the race since Dick Francis in 1956.
He now lives in Oxfordshire.
Moment of Glory: In addition to his Grand National victories, Carl won the Whitbread Gold Cup in Sandown by the largest winning margin in the race's history.
Off the Record: Following his unseating in the 2001 National he ran after Beau in the hope of re-mounting, but it was in vain.
