Famous For: A radio and TV regular on BBC Wales
Trivia: Roy tried to join the RAF as he'd always wanted to be a pilot, but was turned down as he suffers from hay fever. He is also a qualified bus driver!
Biography: Roy is the only son of coal miner Ivor Noble and his wife Sadie. He was born and brought up in Brynamman, though would later move to Aberdare. After passing his '11 Plus' Roy attended Amman Valley Grammar School, where fellow pupils included Vernon Pugh and John Cale. Upon completing his school education he left Ammanford and went to Cardiff to train as a teacher. Listen online to Roy's latest Radio Wales show Visit Roy's pages on the Radio Wales websiteRoy's teaching career took him first to England where he carried out his 'missionary work' and he then returned to South Wales. In his latter years of teaching he became Head Teacher at Ysgol Thomas Stephens in Pontneddfechan, and subsequently Llangattock Primary School in Crickhowell. He also won a scholarship to visit and compare schools in Germany and the USA.
It was at this time that Roy began working (albeit part-time) for BBC Radio Wales, writing and presenting his 'Letters from Aberdare' which were part of the early morning show on the radio station. This would then lead to a significant change in career when, in 1985, Radio Wales asked him to present a show full-time on the station, ultmately progressing to presenting 'The Roy Noble Show', now on air weekday afternoons at 2 PM. In 1999 Roy received a Sony Award for his radio programme, and the following year received the Royal Television Society Award for regional presenter of the year. Roy is also well known in the television world for his work in English and Welsh. From 1994 to 2001 he co-presented the Welsh language show 'Heno' in the 7PM slot on S4C., along with other programme such a diet show with Barbara Dickson and a series of 'Noble Guides' on subjects as diverse as manliness and mortality!
Roy is involved with many charities and organisations. He is an Officer of the Order of St.John and an Honorary Fellow of UWIC (University of Wales Institute Cardiff). Roy is married to Elaine and they have one son - Richard. He still lives in Aberdare and is vice president of the town's rugby club.
Moment of Glory: In 2001 Roy was awarded the OBE for his charity work.

Is there any truth to the legend that Roy once got a job through simply sending someone a letter every day for a couple of weeks, each with nothing more than his name on it?
