Jon in Newport wasn't happy with train services on Saturday 2 July:"Just went to catch the train to Swansea. All trains delayed some even cancelled due to a power failure! No replacement buses running! No information at the station. Guess I'll not make my friends wedding and lots of people will not make it to Live8 or the Cheltenham races!"
Anthony Ernest in Penarth is happy to see the Vale of Glamorgan line reopen:"I joined the First Day Celebrations on Sunday 12th June, when real people travelled on the trains. There was a wonderful turnout at Rhoose & Llantwit Major, with hundreds joining in the fun, and the enthusiasm was evident all round as we stopped at each new station. For a couple of pounds, to be able to travel to Bridgend and back, was great fun, and I thank the Vale and Bridgend Councils for all the work put in over several years, to get this line up and running again."
Andrew in Cardiff isn't impressed:
"I was grossly disappointed to hear that the rail link to the capital's airport is from from a link, and that passengers using the facility have to travel to the rail line by bus!! I challenge the authorities in Wales to step out of the mire and progress as it says it wishes to. This in my humble opinion would mean a true 'fast' rail link to the centre of the capital doorstep to doorstep... put us on the European map for business and leisure travel."
Anthony Powell in Bridgend says users of the reopened Vale of Glamorgan line should be thankful:"I think that the Welsh Assembly has done the right thing by re-opening the Vale of Glamorgan line with an hourly service Mon-Sat. However when people moan about wanting a half-hourly service they must rember that some sections of the line particularly Cogan Junction are already up to maximum capacity and would require expensive remodelling resulting in trains from Barry Island and Bridgend terminating at Barry."
Steve Evans in Porth is unhappy with the Valley Lines:"Rail services in the Rhondda are abysmal. Time and time again trains are being terminated in Porth - this then results in people on the following stations to Treherbert wondering where the train is as there are no live information boards. When a train does turn up no explanation is given to why a train hasn't turned up. This has happened to myself on many occasions.
"Arriva Trains Wales is a shambles. I have set up a campaign on the iCAN website at www.bbc.co.uk/dna/ican/G847 where people can support my campaign to try and improve the service. I also encourage other people in their area to do the same as the politicians think we like the service given."
John R Jones in Preston remembers travelling on the Vale of Glamorgan line before its recent reopening:"I used to commute regularly between Bridgend and Cardiff throughout most of the 80's and early 90's, as I didn't drive then. On one occasion when I had been further away and was home travelling via Cardiff I noticed a slight difference of route as we left Cardiff and it became apparent that the train was being diverted along the Vale of Glamorgan line. This happened during the late 80's or early 90's - I don't know if it was a one off or whether all trains were diverted for engineering work on the main line over that period. The main point I am making here is that it hasn't been about 40 years since passengers travelled along this line as it was used for diverting trains where necessary.
"Whenever I come down now I use the car as public transport is rather unreliable. Trains are a bit better than buses but more needs to be done to get passengers back using public transport. I would use the train more for the relaxation if it were more reliable and cost effective but since taking up driving sadly there is no satisfactory alternative."

Matt Morris in Swansea is unhappy with local services in south Wales:"Arriva Trains are a shambles. Basically every week I am left waiting for anything from 20 minutes to 2 hours for a train to turn up. And some trains leave the station they start at an hour late! Even when they do arrive they are filthy and iffy - the 12:20 from Swansea to Cardiff (1 single carriage train) has broken down with me on board 3 times, in the middle of nowhere for hours."
Richard in Melksham had problems getting home from the Tsunami Benefit Concert in Cardiff:"Why was there only one train at 10.50pm back to Bath with a limited amount of coaches? This was not publicised on the train web site. I wonder how many people had a lot of problems getting home. What is it about the UK? We cannot seem to cope with providing transport for large events. I cannot believe that we are actually putting in a bid for the Olympics!!"
Gemma Hope in New Tredegar wants train operators to provide more carriages when demand is high:"Arriva Trains Wales encourage shoppers to avoid trains between 4pm and 6pm due to working passengers. This means that the 1808 service to Rhymney is the first on which the 'cheap day' passengers can travel. Why then does Arriva insist on putting on just two carriages when there are still a large number of working passengers who do not have the luxury of finishing in time to get the earlier train?
"On countless occasions I have witnessed parents with young children not being able to get the pushchairs on the train due to the passenger load so have to catch the later train which is at 1924, an hour and a half later!
"So much for reducing the number of cars on the road. I myself will be facing the traffic jams in a Ford Fiesta!!"
