Roger in Dorking came to Cardiff to see the All Blacks match in November 2005:"I went to the Stadium on Saturday for the first time and it is streets ahead of anywhere else I have been. It was a pity however that they did not rehearse the flag unfurling as it snagged and it may have been an omen. It was also a pity that only one public bar was open after the game and the queue was too long and unruly. They missed my possible turnover as I was waiting at the stadium to avoid the rush. Sharper management would help especially as Mr M (WRU Chief Executive David Moffett) is going back to the land of the long white cloud."
Chris in Swansea saw Wales beat England and Ireland on their way to the 2005 Grand Slam:"I was fortunate enough to have experienced the thrills of a Welsh Rugby match at the Millennium Stadium 4 times, and I'm going back for the New Zealand game in November. When we won the Grand Slam on that beautiful day in March, I was there in the Stadium, and it was without a doubt the best day of my life. I have never been in an atmosphere like it, and I probably never will again. The adrenaline rush was amazing. The tears were welling up in my eyes and the hairs on my neck and arms stood up. Words really can't describe it..."
Peter Graham-Johnson in Warrington is a rugby league fan:"Cardiff is a superb stadium and perfect location especially for Rugby League. I would say the majority of supporters would prefer games to be held at Cardiff rather than the 'new Wembley', where there are no pubs or restuarants nearby, accomodation poor and car parking is a joke. Leave Wembley for the southerners."
Robert in Nottingham came to see U2 in June 2005:"Just want to say a great big thanks to Cardiff for the U2 gig ... it really was one of the best nights ever and the Millennium Stadium ROCKED!"
Stevo in Derby adds his praise:
"Had one of the best days ever. A big thank you to the staff at the stadium - very well organised."
Ben from Cardiff loves the place:"The stadium on match day cannot be beaten for atmoshpere. It's brilliant! Beats Twickenham any day."
Michael Norton in Billericay is a happy Hammers fan following the Championship playoff final:"Thank you to the Cardiff police authorities and the people of Cardiff. I enjoyed a great day on the 30th May. As a West Ham fan for over 40 years I would like to thank all of you for your courteous behaviour. Thank you all."
John Matthews from Hartlepool enjoyed his visit for the 2005 Division One playoff even though Sheffield Wednesday won:"Wonderful day - good stewards, police and all people connected with the stadium. Well done to the people of Wales. All the very best for the future - number 1 venue."
Colin Joyce from Northampton has praise for stadium stewards at the 2005 FA Cup Final:"I am disabled and would like to thank the stewards for their help - it was fantastic. They took me from the gate 6 right to our seats and back again. I was so grateful - please thank them on my behalf for the all the assistance."
Bronwen in Parsippany, New Jersey, USA, had a memorable trip:"I was at the Six Nations Match between Wales and England in 2003. Although Wales didn't win that year, it was a lot of fun. When the crowd sang the Welsh National Anthem and then 'Delilah' it was an amazing. An atmosphere unlike any sporting event in the US I've been to."
Cliff Gathercole in Tunbridge Wells enjoyed a famous victory for Crystal Palace over West Ham in 2004:"Absolutely superb experience. The atmostphere both in and outside the ground was great, the view of the pitch was amazing and not a sign of trouble anywhere. And we won. Come on you Eagles. Thanks Cardiff."
Adam in London was on the losing side:
"I visited in 2004 for the play-off final which West Ham unfortunately lost. Nice stadium with plenty of legroom and can't wait to go there in a week's time. Let's hope the new Wembley can be even better."
Chris Sheppard in Maidstone wants to see more big concerts:"I was one of the lucky 70,000 people who got tickets for the charity concert held in January 2005. It was without doubt the best I have ever been to and the people of Cardiff made me feel very welcome and I always find them friendly. The concert itself was brilliant with Keane, Snow Patrol, Embrace and Feeder being exceptional ... showing that the UK has a thriving music scene! More of the same please, Cardiff!!!"
Jim Davis remembers seeing Walsall beat Reading in a playoff final back in 2001:"Not once in our 113 year history did we ever manage a Wembley Final appearance of any sort so the Play-off Final v Reading was the first time Walsall had played in a major final at a National Stadium.
"What a game of highs and lows, what a beautiful game this is when the result finally swings your way. Having twice fallen behind, the second time in the first few minutes of extra time, I thought we had blown it and I was mentally preparing myself to face defeat gracefully when, Bang! Reading defender Barry Hunter attempting to clear the ball out of the Reading box thumps the ball out onto the head of a prostrate Tony Rougier only to see the ball loop up and over the head of the stranded goalkeeper to draw us level. Then a minute later Darren Byfield coolly slots the ball wide of the Reading keeper to put us in front for the first time in the game with time running out for Reading and their massed supporters, who far outnumbered the Saddlers support at least 3 to 1.
"Exhausted though shouting and drained from a roller coaster ride of emotions I almost cried when I stood watching Sir Ray and the boys celebrating this famous victory and promotion back to the 1st. I could have danced all the way back to the West Midlands I was on such a high. Never in 35 years of supporting Walsall have I felt so much pride and happiness at the success of my hometown club. We won something!"
