Amphitheatre at Caerleon - when did the Romans first come to South East Wales? These are archive messages - to air your views please visit our new Your Say index page.

Jean Moyse in Winnipeg, Canada, asks about Lisvane:

"I remember the pretty village Lisvane, and would like to know more about it. I never see the name to check it out. Have a great day, I am originally from Cardiff - born in Ely."

David Colwill has a suggestion:

"Whilst I am sure there are many people who are qualified to answer you direct Jean, I have noted that if you go to Google search engine and type in 'Lisvane' and 'South Glamorgan' you may be pleased with the results. Good Luck."

Terry Potter in Taffs Well wants to know what happened to the wells that gave the place its name:

"Reputed to have been used by the Romans and Merlin, the wells had great healing powers for eyes and limbs. The area where the wells are situated are at the foot of the Garth mountain, at the bank of the Taf.

"As we Celts were worshipers of water how have these two wells been lost in time?"

Ian Lawrence in Nottingham is an ex-resident of Taffs Well:

"When I left in 1970, the well could not be viewed as the well building was unsafe and very likely condemned. I only saw the well once when a friend and I sneaked in! There's a good web page about the history of Taffs Well -

Allan Morris from Newport wants information about a poem:

"There used to be a poem on display with the Chartist memorabilia in Newport Museum called 'I Believe a Man Betrayed' about John Frost. Any idea how I can track it down?"

Mano from Newport is looking for something for her son to do:

"Are there any places or clubs where I can send my 6 year old son to join any social or sports activity in and around Newport or Cardiff?"

[Editor's note: See our Community Listings for activities in your area]

J Jenkins in Dorset wants information about a cycling relative:

"I want to find out about my grandfather who in his day was a well known top sportsman in sprint cycling. His name was Sidney (or Sydney) Jenkins. He came from south Wales but later moved to London and I believe lived in France for a while in pursuit of his career."
