What is ULTra?
Is this the future of public transport in South East Wales? Will it ever transfer from a test track in Cardiff Bay to the city's streets?
Laura Jones takes a trip on the ULTra in 2002
(Need help with RealPlayer?)The ULTra (Urban Light Transport) project was hailed as a revolutionary concept when it was unveiled on a test track in Cardiff Bay in 2002.
It promised a vision of an automated taxi service, taking people around the city in driverless cars on a dedicated track, with journeys paid for by smart card.

The long term aim was to link the Bay with the city centre and Cathays Park in a £45m project to help solve growing traffic congestion in the Welsh capital.
But a decision by the Welsh Assembly to withdraw financial backing for the scheme put its future in doubt - see our news pages for details.
In the meantime, ULTra's first passenger service is scheduled to open at London's Heathrow Airport in 2009, and it is also being evaluated by cities in Holland, Sweden and Italy.
