Wales' first Islamic garden was opened at St Mary the Virgin Primary School in Butetown on 16 October 2003. The garden was created as a result of a longstanding relationship between the school and BBC Wales - aided by Business in the Community.

The symbol of the garden is a powerful one in the Koran. In this garden the Five Pillars of Islam are represented by five trees, some of which can be seen here.
