Sun 18 June - Death of marriage?
"Only a few days ago I was having a go at the state for letting a silly minority hold sway over the vast majority in passing laws that effectively demeaned marriage as a social convention.
"I saw some small degree of danger to the institution of the marriage contract from these recent laws, and offered my support, be it only a minor amount, for the Archbishop of Canterbury in his proclamations regarding the matter.
"Blow me down, if some so called ecclesiastic think tank have not just come out with a statement to the effect that 'marriage' should be done away with in favour of 'civil' contracts.
"I was nearer the mark than I realised it seems.
"I for one, cannot see any reason to do anything at all except revoke these recent 'laws' that have driven a mile wide scar across millenia of marriage rules and regulations.
"I don't give a damn if some weirdos want to shack up together, but I do care immensely that MY status is to be deconstructed by those same weirdos, or at least, their supporters.
"There are elected personnel actually contemplating that some day, sooner or later, I will be told that my marriage contract, whether taken under the auspices of a church ceremony, or in the simplistic ceremony of a Registry office, is no longer valid, and that I will, instead, be on a par footing with a bunch of homosexual co-habitees.
"I don't think so. I am sure there are millions who, for better or worse, have suffered the trials and tribulations of genuine marriage, and who will be extremely offended by the proposed equalisation of arrangements.
"I am not in the slightest degree religious, in fact quite the opposite, but when MY status is challenged by a loud mouthed and perverted majority, I feel it time I stood up to counted, alongside the leaders of the world's great religions.
"I for one will not bend before the wind of this proposal; nor, I seriously suspect, will millions more who are in a similar mindset to myself.
"For it to be voiced aloud even, makes me wonder just how far the road to perdition this nation has travelled.
"I recently said that we were on the road to hell on a handcart, I retract that in favour of stating 'on the wings of a jet plane', so rapidly does this stuff seem to be appearing these days."
