Morgan's Shout - God's PM?

Sat 4 March - God's PM?

"There is a certain air of unrealism in the recent statement by our PM to the effect that it will be down to God to decide whether he was right or wrong to enter the fray in Iraq.

"I have one certain thing to say to him in that regard, and it is this, if he thinks the population of this nation is likely to hold with such a load of jingoistic nonsense he is sadly mistaken, as the next election is very likely to reveal.

"His moronic buddy across the pond may turn to God whenever it suits him, but I very much doubt that such a declaration from our leader in this country will have the same level of fundamental support in his avowed affection for the Almighty.

"As the people of this country have demonstarted time after time, they hold little respect for those who quote God as their inspiration.

"Take Ian Paisley for example - despite all his tirades and religious rhetoric, he is basically seen as a figure of amusement to most of the people, and the press for that matter, and I fear that Tony B is likely to evoke the same response with this latest bit of religoius nonsense.

"We elect our representatives to do a job of work, at a level that we need it to be done, here on earth and with earthly values and demands. God or the afterlife does not enter into it.

"I suggest that Mr Blair enter the church forthwith - there, maybe, he can turn his talents to seeking a style of service that will be more in keeping with his current comments.

"Parliament is, and should be, a secular establishment that attends to our temporal needs and not some fairy story existance that we can neither prove, or under the trying circumsatnces of our daily existance, accept.

"Iraq or anywhere else is subject at present to a massive state of uncertainty, despite all the religion and piety declared to be the basis for their state.

"We have no rights to be there any longer, the task set was to oust a dictatorship, and establish a democratic government, that has been done, and now is the time to leave and let them get on with it.

"God has nothing to do with it - if Blair's conscience is so set that he feels the need to turn to a devinity to help him overcome his guilt in aiding Bush, then he has no place leading this nation any longer.

"Get down on your knees and pray if you think it will help, but leave the rest of us to sort out our own problems in our own way. Just as religion has no place in schools so it certtainly has no place in the seat of our government."
