Thurs 2 February - Carbon monoxide deaths
"I see from news reports that the mother of a recent victim to this form of fatality is requesting the sum of £3 million to fund a TV advertising campaign to promote the safety with regards gas usage, and awareness of faulty appliances, no doubt.
"Why this lady should have to obtain such a enormous sum of money is beyond reason, for the simple fact that TV companies should make this sort of publicity available for FREE.
"I realise that it cost money to make adverts, and to schedule them, when others, (who may well have paid big bucks to have) theirs given prime time exposure.
"But surely the danger from this type of incident is equally likely to occur to the relatives of both TV executives, and programme and advert makers, as well as the general public.
"It will do them not one bit of financial good to charge for such, with potentially the idea not coming to fruition due to the immense costs involved, especially if one, or more, of their own family members comes to grief because they did not get the message that these adverts are likely to provide.
"Let's have a bit of generosity for a change, and make, and show the adverts without charge, you can well afford it, was it once not said that the operation of ITV was like a license to print money?
"As for the BBC, they screen enough crap programmes on a daily basis, so a bit of sensible stuff won't hurt that corporation overmuch, and if it replaces some of the other silly nonsense that appears on our screens on a regular basis, then good enough.
"Down to earth with you all, and look out for others for once, and stop thinking of your stupid viewing figures, think of the immense good that can come from a bit of social and community advertising, especially in such a vital subject matter as this one about the dangers of toxic fumes. We can all fall foul of this, let's pull together and see the problem off."
