My Health Has Improved

Yasmeen - photo by Mo Wilson

by Yasmeen

It was in 2001 when a friend introduced me to a women only Swimming. I had a stroke when I was 15 years old and went into a coma for three months after that. I was not able to walk properly or do any exercise.

I used to go to the hospital to learn to walk and to do other things. These sessions at the hospital used to be mixed and I didn't feel comfortable taking part.

When I found out about WiA doing women only activities, I decided to come because I needed the exercise.

The swimming, aerobics sessions, and going to the gym have really helped me a lot. I can walk much better now and also my back pain has improved.

I had private treatment and used to be on so many different medications for these things, but now I don't need most of them.

I enjoy being part of the group and swimming so much, and can't wait until its Thursday again!
