Lifeguard Training

Ruksana Islam - photo by Mo Wilson

Women In Action's swimming sessions have become so popular that there is now a need for more female lifeguards.

As more and more women started coming swimming every Thursday morning the demand for more women only sessions began to grow but the limited numbers of female lifeguards meant that it was difficult for the service to cover these sessions.

Members of Women in Action got together with Cardiff County Council and Dave Jackson, the manager of Maindy and Splott swimming pools, to discuss the possibility of training up some members as lifeguards.

As well as addressing the shortage in female lifeguards, the training helps to creates employment opportunities for women from diverse communites, and improves access for other women.

Five members from Women in Action have now undergone lifeguard trainning, and three are employed by Cardiff County Council.
