Weird Nation

Peter Caleb - Brynmawr (now resident in Canada)

September 1952 - I had been out to dinner with old friends (tee-total).

Walking home up Worcester Street I realised I had company.

There were two shadows cast by the gas lamps.

I glanced left, went cold, beside me about six feet away, a tall column of utter blackness ... I was terrified.

Needing to cross its path to go left on Bailey Street, I stopped. It went on!

I had sensed it, it ignored me. I ran like the wind.

My father's comment was "What's wrong? You look as if you have seen a ghost!"

I was young, now I am old (71).

The experience is as vivid as if it were yesterday...
