VE Day Memories

Richard Bosanquet

Richard Bosanquet from Monmouthshire remembers the joyous celebrations at the end of the war in Europe.

Richard tells his story
(Need help with RealPlayer?)

Richard was in London with his father, who'd spent the conflict working in the Cabinet War Rooms.

"We were by the gates at Buckingham Palace, where we saw Winston Churchill and the Royal Family," he recalls.

The party and fireworks that followed were also spectacular.

"Everyone was so excited, hugging and kissing one another and singing," Richard added.

"It was so joyous ... even for a young person like me it was so emotional and so happy.

"I can remember everything about it vividly now."
