A beautiful walk through Cwm Ciddy woods, local parkland and along nearby coast enjoying fine views across the Bristol Channel to the Somerset coast.
The walk glimpses into Barry's ancient past taking in Barry Castle, the Roman Villa at Cold Knap, Porthkerry Victorian railway viaduct and the Golden Stairs where pirates' treasure is said to be buried!

I'm asking a question for my daughter's school work in geography the question it asked is what is the height of the farm is it 50m, 63m, 70m, in height. Could you please let me know.

Did this walk today with All Saints Group. 19 of us attended and enjoyed a fab local walk. No flowers out yet, despite mild temperatures. Lots of dogs enjoying the green park areas. Cafe closed. Toilets not good. Parking fine. No charge in winter. Valeways has loads of other walks locally. Try them !

They have a cafe in Porthkerry Park?? When did that happen?? My brother and I used to spend hours in the Park making rope swings, playing soldier, making dams in the streams and of course playing on the beach. We now live in Louisiana, USA - next time we come home we will check out the new (to us) cafe, when we check out the golden stairs.

The Knap is a nice walk - I often go down with a few of my mates and play football and relax. It's a brilliant day out for all ages.

I used to play football down there with a few college buddies of mine, and if your a aircraft spotter you do see some ATR's, Jumbo's / 777's passing over for Maintenance at BAMC, and the usual flights. All depending on what runaway the airport is using. Its a great place to visit whether its for a fun day out or just a place to relax.

This is a great walk.

This is a walk I do regularly with the dog. I have always felt relaxed and happy and have often wondered at some of the items of interest along the way - now I have the history I shall be taking a closer look.

I remember this walk from my teens. Me and my mates would spend hours down there after dark when we had got drunk. I remember making rope swings - they were fun. Acting like soldiers, getting really mucky, and walking the full length of the stream and then just lying in the sun and drying off. It's a very good park for all ages, whether you're having a quiet walk, adventure or some serious fun - definitely recommend it to anyone.

It's very nice and relaxing to see such beauty in South Wales and the walk is lovely.

A nice walk other than the stretch along the busy Pontypridd Road. Easy free parking at the Knapp car park. Have a cup of coffee in the cafe in Porthkerry park to catch your breath before the climb up the Golden Stairs. Download the map from the Valeways website and use that rather than the somewhat inaccurate way markers on route.
The map says 'Walk down the road for about 200 yards and descend the steps to the right into the woods to cross the footbridge in Cwm Barri.
Turn right and follow the footpath out of Porthkerry into Salisbury Road'. The waymarkers tell you to turn left after the footbridge.
Follow the map.
