Dewi, originally from Ton Pentre, dusted off an old picture of the Treorchy and Cwmparc Boys Club rugby team 1949-50. "I keep the picture handy because it reminds me I was once young and fit!" says Dewi (pictured right, middle of bottom row).
After the picture was published on this website and in the local press, the BBC managed to trace 13 of the original 17 players who came from all over the country for a get-together at Treorchy RFC in February 2004.
Dewi was presented with a 1949 copy of The Axe, the Pentre Grammar School magazine, named after the school badge which honours the ancient warrior Ifor Bach whose set up camp in the area. The magazine had been tracked down and presented to Dewi by Islwyn Kinsey, who also organised the reunion.
The guests were serenaded by the Treorchy Male Voice Choir, and Dewi took the opportunity to record interviews with his old pals for broadcast on his Second String programme on BBC Radio Wales.

Malcolm H Read in Cardiff (below) recognised himself in the picture:
"I am the third from the left in the back row. Also in the photograph is a young looking Gareth Griffiths of senior international and Cardiff fame. Seeing that team photograph brings back fond memories of the Boys Club. Talk about value for money - the subs were 3 old pence per week. I meet Dewi quite often in the BBC Club, and we have a little reminiscence of days gone by."
