Crow Point Festival
Last updated: 14 August 2006
2006 is the centenary of the Transporter Bridge, and the city of Newport intends to celebrate in style.
John Hallam, one of the festival directors, explains what's in store.
Crow Point Festival takes place on the 16 and 17 September 2006. Head down on these days to the east side of the river near Coronation Park, and you won't be disappointed.
There will be the usual festival extravaganza of music and fireworks, but we also intend to promote activities that will benefit the city - environmental sustainability, community arts, and local employment.
Of course the bridge takes centre stage, and the feat of engineering that went in to constructing and designing it will be fully acknowledged in an engineering display. Indeed, the festival's mascot is named after the bridge's designer Ferdinand Arnodin.
