Teenage Mams on TV

Teenage Mams title

Programme Four

Sarah's story

Jody's story

The final episode in the series followed four teenage couples as they deal with the highs and lows of parenthood alongside the challenges of relationships and growing up very quickly.

Sarah and Steven In the Blaenau Gwent area, 200 babies are born to girls under the age of 18 each year. Sarah, 17, from Ebbw Vale, and her boyfriend Steven are just a couple of months away from the birth of their first child.

But Steven has a lot to do before the arrival of his child. As well as learning some basic details on the subject of biology, Steven must find a job - something that is proving to be difficult for a teenager with few qualifications and no record of any past employment for longer than a couple of weeks.

And in Newport, 17-year-old Jody and her boyfriend, Shaun, 21, have two months to go before the birth of their first child, who they know will be a boy.

Jody has a scan Despite being young, on benefits and living in council-owned accommodation, Jody's mother Jill thinks she'll be fine: "She's lucky; she's settled, has a place of her own, a good boy by her, and they're engaged - you can't ask for much more."

The programme also follows brothers Craig and Mark from Cardiff, who have two things in common; a criminal record, and being a teenage parent.

Teenagers Craig and his girlfriend Kayleigh are parents to six month-old Nevaeh. After 11 months of waiting, Kayleigh is now looking forward to finally getting a set of keys to a council house for her and her daughter.

Mark and his girlfriend Claire are parents to six month-old Brooke, who Mark admits has helped put him on the straight and narrow.

"I've got something to look forward to now instead of waking up to nothing," he says.
