When The Buses Won't Stop

Teen Mams - waiting for a bus

By Lynsey

I'm a 20-year-old college student, who has two children aged 10 and22 months. I start college at 10 am and finish at 3pm.

The only problem is I don't get home until 5.30pm because the buses will not pick me up. Because I have a lot of bags and the kids, the buses just don't seem to want to stop. I have no choice but to put my youngest son in a pram and walk my other.

The worst day was when I had only just started college. It was my second day. I finished at 2.30pm and I went down to pick my children up from Aberaman crèche. They had slept through snack time and were really tired. My friend was also with me. She couldn't help as she had her 23-month old son with her.

We were waiting at the bus stop by the gas-works. We were there for about forty five minutes and then the bus came. He was pulling in, until he saw three children, bags, pram and us. All of a sudden he looked away and drove off.

These are the people who make me mad. We had waited for ages for the bus in the boiling hot sun, by a main road, and with all of us at this point really wanting to go home. The next bus driver did exactly the same.

I couldn't believe they would do that to the children. They knew how hot it was and that we would then have to wait for the next bus.

Eventually we walked to Aberaman KwikSave and got a taxi, which had to send another one because we needed a six seater. That's why we didn't get home until 5.30pm.

I think that it is wrong that the buses can do this to us. When we told Student Services and they complained for us, the company didn't seem to care.

I think it's because they know that they are the only bus company which services our area. This means that they don't care and their attitude is we either use them or we don't, knowing we'll have no choice.
