According to national statistics, one in three women during their lifetime will have at least one abortion. Girls as young as 13, to women as old as 48, are having abortions each day.
Not all girls and women choose themselves to have a termination. Sometimes they have no choice.
I would say that it is harder for young girls who live with their parents or guardians to make up their own mind about having a termination, because parents can be very forceful and take charge.
There are even parents who would kick their daughters out on the street, which makes it harder for teenagers to tell their parents that they're pregnant.
This is one of the reasons why I think that the pill should be given to young girls of any age if they wished to receive it, even if they weren't having sex.
According to my adviser from Bodywise, doctors will only put you on the pill if you have had sex, and will only be willing to give condoms out to young girls who are still virgins.
I strongly disagree with this because of the risk of a young girl getting raped and then falling pregnant. You can't just say to a man about to rape you, to hold on and put a condom on first.
I plan to write to the local MP to complain about this and say that the law should be changed. It's hard for women of all ages to cope with the fact of being raped, never mind if you fall pregnant because of it. Many women who have reported rape are not even believed by the police.
