The beach can be accessed from Newton or from Ogmore beach and can be surfed depending on the tide.
Low tide can offer up decent sandbanks between here and Southerndown which is around the next bay to the south.
It needs a swell above three feet to work and is really only good on a clean swell towards high tide.
Depending on swell size - it's not really a spot for beginners due to the strong rips caused by the river as the area is very tidal so be aware of the tide times. It can also suffer from pollution caused by overflow into the river after heavy rain.
Parking and a surf lifesaving club are both nearby with views of Coney Beach in the distance on the right hand side.
There are a few spots to surf here depending on the stage of the tide. The main peak is normally best infornt of the river mouth where the banks form but you can also wander down the beach a fair way and find rideable waves towards Newton.
On a small, clean day it can be perfect for longboarding.
The boat ramp can provide nice sucky barrels but you need to be careful and further round towards Southerndown can also be good @ low tide but you need keep an eye out for the tide coming in.
Adrian: "The only outfall from the local sewage plant is clean processed water some of which is used as process water by local industry. The out fall is the excess water. The solids, which are sterile, are used as agricultural fertilizer."
