Brenda: "This is the interior of Wakeling Bros shop in Clifton
Street during the 1960s. The brothers were Ted Wakeling
and Stanley Wakeling (my father). Both the brothers are now
dead - my uncle had no children and I was an only child."

That's a great photo. Haven't been back to Cardiff since the 70s but I was born there and remember that shop. I come from Splott.

I reckon I must've been in that shop. We lived in Tin Street and my mum lived in Constellation Street before that so all the shops in Clifton Street were regularly used. I used to like to go to Louis Cafe for sweets or sometimes Haines' which was next door. I bought my first records from Gibbs'(?) record shop in Clifton Street (single Pyjamarama by Roxy Music and LP Ride a White Swan by T.Rex). All my xmas pressies for family came from Woolies.

I remember Brenda's dad & uncle - I used to go in to their shop in Clifton Street for all sorts of things that my mam wanted (I lived in Pearl Street). I also remember the old fashioned service that people got when they went in to the shop. I always seemed to be served by Ted Wakeling who knew where everything was in the store. He was a very familiar sight around Splott and despite his handicap he was always cheerful.
