I used to take a baby out from the Edward Nicholl home on a regular basis in 1965 when I was a schoolgirl in Cardiff. He was called Jimmy. I just wish I could remember his surname as I would love to know what happened to him and if he was ever adopted.

The Edward Nicholl Home definitely existed because my father was placed there in 1929 and eventually adopted in 1930. Like Babs, I would be very pleased if I could get more info about the place because it is a very mysterious time of my father's life.

I remember the Edward Nichol Home well. It was still used into the 1970's, and I remember all the youngsters from the area including myself, having a huge fancy dress party there (to celebrate the Silver Jubilee I believe). It was knocked down to make space for a new estate in the early eighties. The original garden boundary wall that ran south along the home's gardens is still the wall that runs along Dorchester Avenue from Penylan Hill today. The picture of Penylan Road brings back further memories of that cold winter of 76 when almost every child in Penylan had 2 weeks off school (from Malborough Road to Howardian High), and spent hours trying to toboggan down Penylan Hill on everything from tea trays to black plastic bin liners. Wonderful memories.
