Bargain Basement

Tahira Sarwar Tahira Sarwar, a journalist from Pakistan, was surprised to find so many shops running sales when she visited Cardiff in the summer of 2006.

Watch Tahira's film

Tahira, who works for the United Nations humanitarian news agency IRIN, was visiting Wales for a three-month journalism course run by the Thomson Foundation.

As well as the "all-season" sales, she was also amazed to see so many charity shops in the centre of an affluent Western city - and even they were having sales!

Dewan Rai
Wonderful job. I also have seen a number of shops running sales but not any charity shop around. What a nose for news!

Ahmed Rajab from Quetta, Pakistan
Very nice, but she can come back to Pakistan and find lots of sales here too, maybe also a husband.

Muhammad Imran Herl from Riyadh, Saudi Arabia
Well! It's gorgeous! The lady has shown a real flair for research and keen observation!

Hameed, Cardiff
