Jules, who works for the Seychelles Broadcasting Corporation, helped out with gardening, washing dishes and other duties at the Ty George Thomas Hospice in Whitchurch during his time out from a course run by the Thomson Foundation.

He said he sees voluntary work as a good way of getting to know a place, although the hospice was pleasantly surprised when he offered his services.

"They don't usually have overseas people volunteering - but for me it's a pleasure," said Jules.

"It's just feeling good that you've been able to contribute, no matter how little."
