I see someone asking about Lizadrone not with an M. It was a large house - my mother was cook there and my father was chaffeur. My father Jack Boothby grew up in Fidlas Road and his father was Police Seargent in Llanishen for many years.

Does anyone remember the two old cottages on Thornhill Road Cardiff - Primrose cottage and Rose cottage? They were located near the garage on the corner of Heol Llanishen Fach. Does anyone know if there are any photos of these properties?

Hi Ron, I was very interested to read your story of Thornhill. I was brought up here, in the cottage after the one you mention buying lemonade from...
Where you bought your lemonade from, was my grandparents home, they used to make it and sell from the cottage, amongst other things. The cottage is called "Stone House" and is still there. My father was born there, along with 10 brothers and sisters....how they fitted in there I'll never know.

I know this route well today. What was the Lizardrome? Was it true that the houses along the right side of Thornhill Road at this time, had little bridges at the end of their drives to cross a little stream? It must have been very picturesque

I945 - Summer time leisurely walks were a joy. No more air raids. Coed Glas Rd to Capel-Gwilm being one of the many. I would walk to the top of road and right passed the Marguerite field and sit on the style and wait while my mother as she came by the x-roads. Opposite the style was a pair of old cottages. We would continue up Thornhill passed the Lizardrome and a thatched white cottage. Further up passed where the crematorium is now, there was a cottage where one could buy homemade lemonade. Capel-Gwilym was a hop, skip, and a jump away.
