I lived in Poets Corner - we were one of the first families to move into Llanrumney. We came from Weekly Road Ely where we lived with My Grandad and Family. Our first house in Llanrumney was in Ruskin Close then we moved up to Bampton Road where I seem to remember your first contributor Murial Huxtable or at least the name rings a bell. My mother would have been Joan who originated from Splott, Portmanmoor Road. Although I have lots of great memories of Llanrumney having seen most of it built it's great to read some of the comments here.

I have fond memories of the pond near Ball Road where as a child spent many hours fishing for frogs and newts, I permantly had water filled wellies and prune hands, my grandparents moved to Llanrumney Avenue as it was built and then my parents and I moved to Countisbury Ave and then to Bampton Road, although I have moved around some I still consider myself to be a Llanrumney girl.

Does anyone remember between the 1970s-1980s the open air outdoor pool situated on the grounds of where the Eastern Leisure Centre is at the top end of Llanrumney? Would anyone happen to have photos or any information on it as I remember it but I would like to jog other people's memories as I have been told I am imagining it.

Its great to see a picture of our beloved Llanrumney Hall, its high time that the place was given the historical recognition that it so truly deserves. The Llanrumney Hall had connections with the Kemys Family and then the Morgans. Although Sir Henry Morgan was said to have been born there, reputable historical sources give his place of residence as being Abergavenny. Henry had an uncle or brother called Sir Thomas Morgan, a brilliant Parliamentarian soldier who lived at LLangattock Lingoed in Powys.

I grew up in Ball Road and was one of six. We have really happy memories of Llanrumney and still do. My two sisters Judy and Pam, still live there. My brother Peter lives in and runs the Llanrumney Hall pub and is trying to turn it around, doing fun days, bootsales, meals etc. All his sisters wish him well and we love going over there when he has something on or a singer. My dad used to be a barman over there and used to play skittles with a team called the Pirates, after Captain Morgan I expect. Fab memories.

We moved to Llanrumney when it was first being built. I was 7. We lived next to the Llanrumney Hall Hotel, there was a lake there at the time and of course we were warned not to go near the water or we would catch something. anyway being kids that's exactly what we did. My friend and I walked my dog over there and I slipped into a stream which fed the lake. Going home I noticed my hands had turned red, I was terrified now more than just getting a row for being wet, I was going to DIE!.Turned out that the dogs lead was red and the dye was on my hands, it washed off but mybackside was sore for days!

I moved to Chard Avenue, Llanrumney, in 1952 when I was 5 and lived there until I was 23. What happy memories. When I was little they had a little room at the Llanrumney Hall where kiddies could go and get pop and crisps - I felt so grown up. Then I would join my parents sitting outside on the grass. My dad had a pint, my mum a shandy and a fag - he he! Me and brother Alfie had lemonade and crisps. It was a brilliant time in my life - I met my first boyfriend in the grounds of Llanrumney Hall when they used to hold the fair there every year. Our school banned us (as if we listened) going to the fair, but we did.

The County Cinema was a a great place to go when I was growing up in the 60s

Stacey the big house near the Eastern that i think your thinking of is 'Ball House' on Ball Road. My Father told me many a ghost story concerning the house back in the late 80s and i still try to scare my own children with tales now!

I went to Penybryn school, then on to Llanrumney High School for Girls (remember Mrs Burge?) Met my husband Terry in the Hall. Had many a good night in the 70's at the Hall even had my wedding reception there. It was a good place to go. Everyone of all ages knew each other and got on famously. They were very happy times. We'd have football/baseball matches on the field even funfairs. Remember the big tree trunk on the edge of the field near the bus stop?

Trying to trace a very old friend of mine, Carl Eley. We used to spend nights in the Llanrumney Hall hotel with his dad Mel.

I remember opening and working at a betting shop for Shermans Racing in the early 1960s at the Llanrumney Arms(at least I think that was what it was called).I also worked in betting shops in Tiger Bay and Cowbridge Road West for Shermans. I then went and worked for JM Charles Racing at Pontypridd. I am 69 years of age and have lived in the South East of England for 30 years. I was born in Pontygwaith in the Rhondda Fach.

As a child living on Llanrumney Avenue in 1962, I went to school at Fairwater, when Canton High school moved from Market Road, Canton. I'd catch the bus to Central station from Fairwater, but many times, especially in summer months, I raced the bus from Central bus station to Llanrumney. It was often not in the bus station so I'd run up St Mary Street and very often catch it at the Capitol, or continue running up Newport Road and Rumney Hill. I got pretty fit beating the No 48 (to Llanrumney) and No 30 (to Newport) which stopped at the now-gone police station on Newport road. And the money saved helped.

Back in the 70's I went to Bryn Hafod junior school on Blagdon Close. I believe in 1975 it was decided all pupils would prepare something for a time capsule to be buried and dug up in the year 2000. I had never forgotten that and contacted the headmaster in 1999. He knew nothing of it, but said he would ask some of the parents that had attended back at that time. Turns out after some checking he figured the time capsule was probably dug up when the area near the trees was expanded for parking. Also have memories of growing up on on Glastonbury Terrace. I have good memories of Llanrumney and have been in contact with old friends via a well know reunion website. I now live in Vancouver and try to get back as much as I can.

I lived in Llanrumney between 1969 and 1999. If I remember correctly when the Hall was re-furbished in the 80's the original staircase was accidently destroyed when other timbers were disposed of by fire.

I can't tell you when the Llanrumney Hall was an approved school but I can tell you that it became a pub in the 1950s.

Can you please tell me when it was an approved school, also the year it was turned in to a pub?
