When I was little, going to Cardiff was really special, a once in a year day out!
We'd tumble into the car - Dad always drove - drove out of Swansea, passed steelworks and cows, behind lorries and tractors, a steady 30... all the way to Cardiff.
Fidgets came in earnest on Cowbridge Road East - as long as its name, and nearly there....over the river, past the sad stone animals and on to, at last, the pink road with wedding cake buildings.
Park, and into the museum built around a coal mine with real miners working away. Dad saw them move, but me, always too slow.
Starvin' by middle of the daytime. On to British Home Stores - just the job. A smidgeon of time to look for trolley buses, peacocks and sweets.
Until we'd all say 'what a great day out in Cardiff'.
