I went to St Pat's RC School from 1953 and left in 1963.
When I was in the Infant's School I vividly remember being sat on a large wooden rocking horse, along with a few other children and hanging on to its mane for dear life.
The headmistress at the time was Mrs Clark who was later replaced by Miss Rein.
I will never forget Canon Phelan who would visit our class to check who was at Mass the previous Sunday.
One of our teachers was Terry (Tich) Stevens later became headmaster when Mr Smith retired. He was a great teacher, headmaster and loved football.
Many years later, I was looking through the sports section of the Cardiff Yesterday Books and discovered he was in quite a few of the photographs as he was coach for the Cardiff Schools Football League.
In his office when he was headmaster, he proudly had the very same photographs hanging on the wall. Then I understood why he always had us kicking footballs about.
Other teachers I remember from those years was Mr Taylor who was the music teacher, Mr Spear, Mrs Steele, Mrs Steer, Mr Chidgey, Maureen Sexton and Miss Parle.
At the time I always thought St Pat's was a very strict school, but looking back it was a good school with a very good name, and I believe that it still has.

I went to St Pat's until we moved to Rumney. Then I went to Lady Margarets. I remember the rocking horse. Also running to the air-raid shelters during the war. Ms Fagan is the only teachers name I remember. She tought my sister Eileen too.

Ms Byrne's comments reminds me of my own schooldays although I go back a bit further than she does! I went to St Pat's from 1939 to 1942, going on to Heathfield House from there. Mrs Steele was my teacher, and I also remember Canon Phelan. My grandmother Mrs Dacey was Headmistress of the Infants School, she retired in 1931. She was a well known figure in Grangetown, and had taught the parents of most of my schoolmates.
