Lying in the Wye Valley, Croes Robert Wood has excellent views across the Vale of Usk.
The woodland was clear-felled in 1982 and traditional coppicing and charcoal burning have been re-introduced.
Woodland clearings are full of flowering meadow plants such as Bluebells and Yellow Archangel, attracting many varieties of butterflies and moths, such as the Silver Washed Fritillary and the White Admiral.
The reserve is home to many mammals - fallow deer and badgers to name but a few - and manages a special Dormouse nesting scheme. The Dormouse in an endangered species and requires a high protein diet of nuts and berries.

Location: Leave Monmouth on the B4293 travelling towards Trellech. Turn right past Trellech School signposted to Cwmcarvan. After 1 miles take the first right turn. The Reserve entrance and car park are located on the right hand side.
