Does anybody remember the Gould family from Stanley Terrace? My father [Billy Gould] was born there and there was a big family of eleven!!I was born in Tredegar and so was my mother. I remember as a child going to visit my grandparents on the bus and getting off at Tir Fil and walking up steep roads to Stanley Terrace. If anyone can remember the Gould family I would like to hear from you.

Owing to being a miner I now have to have oxygen every day. This was supplied by cylinder from the local chemist and I had no problem with it. Now air products have taken over and it's nothing but problems. Is anyone else having problems or is it only me?

Hello!! I was born in Fothergills Road. Since I have been a little girl I have always enjoyed the backs of my road where there was a lot of animals which I used to love. I know many people there ... Emma, Charlotte, Emily, Moo and Samuel, Charlotte's boyfriend. I love everyone there and I hope that I see some new faces in my hometown!

I only travel to New Tredegar twice a week to visit my girlfriend. I think that the village is beautiful and is a stereotypical model for 19th century mining villages, however I strongly believe that the council and local police should work together to tackle the yobbishness and anti social behaviour in the village. From my girlfriend's house the noise and behaviour from these yobs is horrendous. Maybe if the council built new facilities for these young troublemakers, or the police took a more strict approach then maybe the village will become a more safe, secure and strong community. Is it time to sort this out?

To Kathryn Perkins - please could you tell me where I can get hold of the books New Tredegar in Focus and New Tredegar Again. I would be most grateful - thank you.
Kathryn Perkins, Caerphilly
I have the books New Tredegar in Focus and New Tredegar Again if Mel Woodward wants me to scan photos to him.

My dad used to own the New Empire. The Radio Wales week was really fun. I remember the kids disco - it was great. Plus we got some free CDs and polo shirts. I also remember Dewi Griffiths who danced and broadcast to the radio live.

I lived in Jubilee Rd in '72/73 for one year and class it as one of the special times of my life. I made many friends there and it has special memories for me, the good ones outweigh the bad.

I lived at Upper Road, Cwmsyfiog. I had 2 brothers - the oldest was George, then there was Jimmy. I also had a sister called Rita. Sadly they have all passed away - there is only myself & my mam left. If any one can remember us it would be nice to hear from you from you. They were good times when we all grew up together with the friends from Cwm.

I now live in Hereford. Have done for 40 years but I still class Wales as my home. I sometimes travel through New Tredegar & Cwmsyfiog to look at the area I was born in & my old home. Times have changed but it is still a great place. Everybody knows everybody, not like the big town where I live now.
Ann Thomas (nee Davies)
I was born in Cwmsyfiog, New Tredegar. I lived at Upper Road till I was 15 then we moved to a new house in Aberbargoed. If any one remembers me I would like to hear from them.

New Tredegar should have more places and facilities for the younger generation as they have no other option than to commit crimes.

My father's brother Edgar had a cobblers shop in the small building at the top of School Street. I would come up on the bus from Aberbargoed on Saturday mornings to meet many of the boys from the area. Ones I recall are Trevor Price, Ben Higgins, Aubrey from upper Stanly. Most of us worked later on the coal lorries at Elliots yard. If you put an hundred weight bag of coal on a forteen year old boys back today I think you would be had up for cruelty.

I went to Bedwellty Common (in June 2005) and I found one tiny oak tree where I planted the acorns last autumn. Maybe more will grow in this hot weather - I shall keep looking.

My family were all from New Tredegar. I have letters written to addresses in Jones St and Prithards. I can confirm that the football team were very good.

My family lived in Jones Street. My brother still lives there and some of my sisters live nearby. I left in 1950 but well remember appearing in the Dai George productions during the war.Read more of Mel's memories

I was born and lived in the town until I was 16. I loved my childhood in the town. Looking back it was a brilliant time. The Peak, the Clears, the Seven Crossings, Fothergills Road. My father kept a good house at the Band Club. My brother kept a good house at the Band Club. I will be back!!

My father was born at Cwmsyfiog in 1894 and the hillsides were covered with oak trees. They were cut down when he was a boy, so last autum I collected acorns from the woods on Tredegar Road and planted them on Bedwellty Common, waiting to see if any grow. Fingers crossed.

I am intrigued as to what Strawberry Valley relates to. Can you give me more information?

Strawberry Valley is the English name of Cwmsyfiog.

Would anyone be able to email me with stories of my uncle Lou Price? His name was Llewellyn Price, his wife was Phyllis, they lived in Jones Street in Phillipstown for as long as I could remember. They have a daughter called Angela. Sadly they have both passed away. Any stories would be appreciated. I am Lou's brother's daughter - thank you.

The corvette we collected money for during the war was named HMS Buttercup. My father, HT Morgan of Aberbargoed, wrote a poem - it was given to all school children in the Bedwellty UDC area.

Ben Davies from Phillipstown
During WWII we did many things to raise money for the war effort - including for prisoners of war. The Central School, as then was, put on many a play which was sometimes performed in the Parish Hall. As much as 2d or 3d was charged per ticket. Plays of a dramatic nature and plays with musical features (which were usually the girls). I was always 'volunteered' into some part or other along with others. Mr Dai George, well-loved and respected senior master, was always the drive behind all these goings-on. We must have contributed quite a sum over the years.I write to ask a particular question. Apart from the 'stage' contributions, we had many a raffle to help the War effort. I remember an attempt to collect for a corvette, which would be named New Tredegar if and when launched. There were tickets sold, but nothing was heard as to whether we were successful or not in raising enough money. I remember thinking, even then, population 13000 approx, we won't make it. I don't think we did. Anyone enlarge on that? Please bear in mind I am now in my seventies and we are getting less and less, us wartime children. So, hurry...
Mike Thomas from Croespenmaen
I have driven through New Tredegar many times and I still think that it is a bit of a dump. Maybe that's harsh. I recently spoke to someone who said that they went to look at a house for sale in the area and were put off by the bad reveiws given by others.

Since Elliots Colliery closed, and Hymac in Rhymney, nothing much has been done. We need work to keep the younsters here at the top of our valley, and better facilities. The valley is a beautiful place to live in.

I would like to express my thanks on behalf of the sporting clubs to Glenda Gener of Gwent Association of Voluntary Organsiations and Alwyn Evans of Caerphilly County Borough Council for their help in getting money for sport in New Tredegar to the tune of over £700,000 - thank you both. The money is to be used to improve the sporting facilities in the village - new changing rooms to suit four teams; kitchen area and lounge; also to make an extra field and to improve the tennis area to an all-weather playing pitch.

I think Billy Gabb's idea of a lake for our area would be a great asset for tourism. Lots of people visit Darren Lake and Bryn Bach Park - let's put New Tredegar on the holiday map.
Bill Gabb
After 100 years of slag New Tredegar deserves better - a beautiful recreational lake would regenerate the village into a beautiful area.

I would like to thank Dewi Griffiths and the team for a great night at the New Empire on the Old Time Dance night. I was the MC on the night - all the people who attended said how much they enjoyed the night, and also the Second String broadcast the following Sunday.
