Time for Tea

The Conservatory Tea Rooms at Belle Vue Park, Newport Ros Williams of the Vision 21 charity explains how they're training people with learning disabilities by running tea rooms at Belle Vue Park in Newport.

Vision 21 is delighted to be transferring their catering training vocational project - Doorstep Delights - to offer an enhanced catering provision at the prestigious Pavilion Building in Belle Vue Park.

The public will be able to purchase light snacks, choice desserts, ice creams and afternoon Victorian Teas whilst enjoying the ambience of this attractive venue.

By transferring to The Conservatory we are expanding our sandwich bar to offer a café and buffet facility for meetings, parties and activities booked in the Pavilion Building.

Vision 21 is a voluntary organisation working continuously with a variety of local authorities throughout Wales to develop innovative and inclusive emerging social enterprises to provide increasing ranges of options for lifelong learning and employment for people with learning disabilities.

We are in partnership with Newport City Council Adult Services developing new opportunities for people with learning disabilities.

This Social Enterprise will provide vocational training opportunities to support people with learning disabilities in securing employment within a catering environment.

Through the effective partnership approach with Newport City council's Access to Employment provision, we will be maximising this opportunity, helping students on a pathway to work.

The Council have awarded Vision 21 the contract to operate the catering facility at Belle Vue, and we are sure that The Conservatory, which is fully accessible, will be enjoyed and visited by many people in the community.

The pilot scheme we operated when the Pavilion was formerly opened was very successful and we have received a significant amount of enquires regarding permanently opening facilities at the venue.

The Belle Vue Conservatory Tea Rooms are open from 10am to 4pm daily.
