"Newport has taken an admirable approach to public art. It would be difficult to think of any other place in Wales that has been more enlightened. OK, name me a town or city that has done it better? Certainly not Cardiff, despite the Bay's reasonable collection (but too many for my taste). The capital has just scattered a collection of extremely dull sculptures in its centre - they may be lifelike but they are also utterly lifeless. This sculpture is more like it - understandable, tactile, clever and loveable. It reminds me of Tacca's famous rennaisance Boar outside the market in Florence whose nose has been rubbed to a terrific shine by thousands of tourists. And this artist has other works throughout the city all fine, challenging and accessible."
