Charlotte goes pop

Charlotte Church album Tissues and IssuesFormer classical music child star Charlotte Church has grown up and releases her debut pop album Tissues and Issues.

Review by Andy Roberts.

With well-known writing partners like Guy Chambers and Marcella Detroit, the nation's favourite wayward teenager sings about her growing pains and the pressures of fame.

The album covers all the bases - most appealingly in its trio of bright and breezy openers - the funky Call My Name, brassy single Crazy Chick and the pop/rock Moodswings.

The fabulous Show A Little Faith is soulful without being overwrought like Joss Stone, a path well worth pursuing.

There's a bit of Eurodisco, some power ballads and then a couple of nods to Charlotte's classical roots including the Guy Chambers-penned flamenco-styled Casualty of Love.

If anything, they're a bit of a comedown after the upbeat openers - the voice of an angel has less power than the roar of the rock chick. More of that please!

Tissues and Issues is out now on the Sony/BMG label
